The Precious Blood

"Prayer to the Precious Blood" written by St. Elizabeth Ann Seton:

Lord Jesus, by faith in Your merits, I now take Your Precious Blood and sprinkle it over myself and my family right from the crown of my head to the very soles of my feet. I claim total and complete protection for my life and my family. Lord Jesus, keep me free today from evil, sin, temptation, Satan’s attacks and afflictions, fear of darkness, fear of man, sickness, diseases, doubts, anger, all calamities and from all that is not of thy Kingdom. Fill me, Lord Jesus, with the gift of Your Holy Spirit, and grant me the gifts of wisdom, knowledge, understanding and discernment so that I will live today in Your glory by doing that which is right. Amen.

Saint Quote:

“What are the servants of God if not his minstrels, who must move people's hearts and lift them up to spiritual joy?” St. Francis of Assisi

Meditation quote

"Many men keep the commandments in the way sick men take medicine: more from fear of dying in damnation than for joy of living according to our Savior’s will. Just as some persons dislike taking medicine, no matter how pleasant it is, simply because it is called medicine, so there are some souls who hold in horror things commanded simply because they are commanded . . . On the contrary, a loving heart loves the commandments. The more difficult they are, the sweeter and more agreeable it finds them, since this more perfectly pleases the Beloved and gives Him greater honor."

St. Francis de Sales

Daily Verse

Then [Jesus] said to Thomas, 'Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side; do not be faithless, but believing.' Thomas answered him, 'My Lord and my God!' Jesus said to him, 'Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe.'

St. Maria Goretti (1890–1902) was born in Italy to a humble farming family. Her father died from malaria when she was 9, leaving the family destitute. Her mother and older siblings worked in the fields while Maria managed the household chores and cared for her younger siblings. One summer day while the family was in the fields, Maria was attacked by their neighbor, a 19-year-old boy named Alessandro, who attempted to rape her. Maria wasn't yet 12 years old. She fought back, yelling to him that it was a sin and that he would go to hell for his actions. In a rage over her refusal, Alessandro stabbed Maria fourteen times. Doctors operated to save her life, without anesthesia, and Maria lingered for two days after the attack. She verbally forgave Alessandro for his crime, offered her suffering to God, and died while holding a crucifix. Alessandro went to prison for murder, full of hardness of heart. One day in prison Maria appeared to him in a dream. She placed 14 white lilies, one at a time, into his hands; one for each of the times he stabbed her. This stunning experience of forgiveness brought him to repentance, and Alessandro was converted. Upon leaving prison he sought reconciliation with Maria's mother and with the Church. Alessandro called Maria "his little saint" and prayed to her daily. He also attended her canonization Mass in 1950. Alessandro joined the Franciscans as a lay brother until his death in 1970. St. Maria Goretti is the patron saint of children, youth, young girls, the poor, martyrs, purity, poverty, chastity, rape victims, and forgiveness. Her feast day is July 6th.

Reading 1

Hosea 2:16, 17c-18, 21-22

Thus says the LORD:

I will allure her;

I will lead her into the desert

and speak to her heart.

She shall respond there as in the days of her youth,

when she came up from the land of Egypt.

On that day, says the LORD,

She shall call me “My husband,”

and never again “My baal.”

I will espouse you to me forever:

I will espouse you in right and in justice,

in love and in mercy;

I will espouse you in fidelity,

and you shall know the LORD.

Gospel

Matthew 9:18-26

While Jesus was speaking, an official came forward,

knelt down before him, and said,

“My daughter has just died.

But come, lay your hand on her, and she will live.”

Jesus rose and followed him, and so did his disciples.

A woman suffering hemorrhages for twelve years came up behind him

and touched the tassel on his cloak.

She said to herself, “If only I can touch his cloak, I shall be cured.”

Jesus turned around and saw her, and said,

“Courage, daughter! Your faith has saved you.”

And from that hour the woman was cured.

When Jesus arrived at the official’s house

and saw the flute players and the crowd who were making a commotion,

he said, “Go away! The girl is not dead but sleeping.”

And they ridiculed him.

When the crowd was put out, he came and took her by the hand,

and the little girl arose.

And news of this spread throughout all that land.

Daily Meditation: Matthew 9:18-26

Go away! (Matthew 9:24)

Why would Jesus say that? He had just arrived at the house of an official whose daughter had died, and the customary flute players and mourners had arrived to loudly grieve her death. But Jesus wanted to dispel the commotion. He wanted to make room for faith, because he knew that he was going to bring the girl back to life.

Imagine the distressed father: he had come to Jesus because he believed that if Jesus laid his hand on her, his daughter would live (Matthew 9:18). With great hope, he brought Jesus to his house. But the noise of the mourners and their jeers when Jesus declared, “The girl is not dead but sleeping” must have shaken his faith (9:24). And so Jesus put out the crowd so that the official could focus on what was true: Jesus was there with him, and he could raise his daughter even from death. With the commotion gone and Jesus at his side, the official’s trust was restored, and he was able to witness the Lord raising his daughter from the dead!

Each of us faces struggles or fears that can drown out the truths of faith. The noise of our doubts, the lies of the evil one, and maybe even the words of other people can confuse us about Jesus’ love and presence with us in our struggles. They can shake our faith and provoke panic in our hearts.

At moments like that, imagine Jesus beside you. Bring your swirling thoughts to him. Imagine him telling your doubts and fears to go away as he marches them to the door. Stay with Jesus. It can take time for these voices to calm down and the turmoil to dispel. Believe that he is with you and that he knows what he’s going to do. Trust in him no matter how long it takes. Let him remind you that you are his, and he will never leave you. He is your Lord; you can surrender every part of your life to him. Peace really is possible as you persist in bringing your “commotion” to Jesus and letting him deal with it.

Not only is Jesus with you, but he lives in you. So turn to him in the uproar, and let the peace and quiet of his presence strengthen your faith.

“Jesus, you are faithful. I fix my eyes on you as you take me by the hand.”

Hosea 2:16-18, 21-22

Reflections with Brother Adrian:

2cents2

From today's Holy Gospel:

"..When Jesus arrived at the official’s house

and saw the flute players and the crowd who were making a commotion,

he said, “Go away! The girl is not dead but sleeping.”

And they ridiculed him.

When the crowd was put out, he came and took her by the hand,

and the little girl arose.

And news of this spread throughout all that land. .. ”

From Roberto Juarez:
"The Gospel begins with Jesus walking among the people. Today it continues to happen in our midst. In the Eucharist. Many came to Him seeking health. We approach it looking for something even greater: His own life. Every communion is an encounter with the same Christ who let a woman touch his mantle and who took a girl by the hand to bring her back to life. He keeps touching us. It continues to strengthen us. Keep getting up.
Today's Gospel invites us to live with trusting faith. The faith of the father who does not resign himself. The faith of the woman who does not lose hope. The faith that dares to approach Jesus even when its strength seems exhausted. Perhaps today we too carry some illness of the body, some wound of the soul, some concern for our family or some suffering that seems to have no solution. Let us listen to the words of the Lord: "Courage, daughter!" And let us contemplate how he extends his hand to us. Let us ask him for the grace to trust him completely, knowing that no situation is beyond his power and that, for those who place their lives in Christ's hands, despair never has the last word, because the Lord is always victorious over sickness, sin and death itself." end quote.

When the Church was going to celebrate a year for Eucharistic Revival, they asked for song makers to make a song to be the theme for it. I decided to enter the contest. But I don't think I entered right, my demo was not on par either. So there was no disheartening on my end. But the song I wrote, was about today's Holy Gospel.

Excuse the lengthy words, but I would like to share the lyrics, because it would help explain how the Eucharist enters the scene...our Lord Himself, the very salvation:

Verse 1
“Why this commotion and why do all weep?
The child is not dead, she is nothing but asleep.”
And they ridiculed him, He simply sent them away,
He took along the child’s true family, and showed them the way.

Verse 2
“Talitha koum,” “Little girl, I say arise!”
The girl, arose now walking, opening all eyes,
He said that no one should know this feat,
He said she should be given something to eat.

Chorus

Give me your food my Lord,
On my knees this I extoll,
Your precious body and blood my Lord,
And I will give you my soul.

▪ - Bridge- Exultation:
- Bridge- Exultation:

I am hungry now my Lord,
I am tired of the negative world,
I am hungry for Your light,
I am ready to be all yours.
—-

Verse 3
“Who has touched my clothes?”
My Lord, Nobody knows.
“The crowd is pressing on you,
and yet you ask, Who?”

Verse 4

Suffering woman, tremble in fear,
“Daughter, your faith has saved you.
Go in peace and cured” dry your tears.

Chorus
Give me your food my Lord,
On my knees this I extoll,
Your precious body and blood my Lord,
And I will give you my soul.

The whole of the story, shows the stories of faith. First, a daddy for his child, his baby. Second, a woman bleeding for years in need of healing.
And because of their faith...we hear about the story still 2,000 years later.
Faith that moves mountains. Faith that overcomes fear and death. Faith that shows us Christ...the solution. The Eucharist, the food for our souls that gives us life.

Our Lord still offers Himself, unending love, as Saint Maria Goretti said.

The question still remains...do you believe?

Do you believe in hope?

That we can defeat death?

That we can be healed when the world offers absolutely no cure?

The answer is Yes. Christ is the solution. We need Him...both now and forever.

I ask for prayers for our family, for my sister's family in particular, having just lost her oldest son, only 23 years old, we are devastated. I'm asking the world to lift them up in prayers, for strength in faith and grace, and for God's light to shine.

We love them dearly. God bless you for blessing others with Christ in you.

Galatians 3:24–26

"So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. 25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, 26 for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith."
