† ' You Have Revealed...

†Saint Quote of the Day
"Act as if everyday were the last of your life, and each action the last you perform."
–St. Alphonsus Liguori

†Today's Meditation
"When we come into church from the outside our ears are filled with the racket of the city, the words of those who have accompanied us, the laboring and quarreling of our own thoughts, the disquiet of our hearts' wishes and worries, hurts and joys. How are we possibly to hear what God is saying? That we listen at all is something; not everyone does. It is even better when we pay attention and make a real effort to understand what is being said. But all this is not yet the attentive stillness in which God's word can take root. This must be established before the service begins, if possible in the silence on the way to church, still better in a brief period of composure the evening before."
—Msgr. Romano Guardini, p. 17

†Daily Verse
"I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."
–John 13:34-35

St. Macrina the Younger

St. Macrina the Younger (d. 380 A.D.) was born in Cappadocia to a family of saints. Her mother was St. Emelia, and her father was St. Basil the Elder. Her grandmother was St. Macrina the Elder, after whom she was named. Her holy parents had ten children. Macrina was one of the oldest, and received an excellent religious education from her holy mother. Her parents betrothed her to a pious youth, but he died before the marriage took place. Macrina then consecrated her virginity to God and lived a life of great asceticism. She remained living with her parents, helping to raise her younger siblings, directing the household servants, and supporting the family with her domestic skills. Among her siblings were St. Basil the Great and St. Gregory of Nyssa (who both became Cappadocian Fathers and Doctors of the Church) St. Peter of Sebaste, and St. Theosevia. When their father died, Macrina became the main support for the family. It was Macrina who profoundly influenced the spiritual discipline of her younger brothers. When all her siblings were grown, Macrina convinced her mother to give up their family belongings, set their servants free, and convert their home into a monastery. Many of their servants joined them in this spiritual pursuit; they all lived together as a family, sharing all things in common. When her mother died, Macrina led the religious community. The biography of St. Macrina's life was written by her brother, St. Gregory. Her feast day is July 19th.

Wednesday of the Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Reading 1 Ex 3:1-6, 9-12

Moses was tending the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian.
Leading the flock across the desert, he came to Horeb,
the mountain of God.
There an angel of the LORD appeared to him in fire
flaming out of a bush.
As he looked on, he was surprised to see that the bush,
though on fire, was not consumed.
So Moses decided,
"I must go over to look at this remarkable sight,
and see why the bush is not burned."

When the LORD saw him coming over to look at it more closely,
God called out to him from the bush, "Moses! Moses!"
He answered, "Here I am."
God said, "Come no nearer!
Remove the sandals from your feet,
for the place where you stand is holy ground.
I am the God of your father," he continued,
"the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob.
The cry of the children of Israel has reached me,
and I have truly noted that the Egyptians are oppressing them.
Come, now! I will send you to Pharaoh to lead my people,
the children of Israel, out of Egypt."

But Moses said to God,
"Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh
and lead the children of Israel out of Egypt?"
He answered, "I will be with you;
and this shall be your proof that it is I who have sent you:
when you bring my people out of Egypt,
you will worship God on this very mountain."

Responsorial Psalm Ps 103:1b-2, 3-4, 6-7

R. (8a) The Lord is kind and merciful.
Bless the LORD, O my soul;
and all my being, bless his holy name.
Bless the LORD, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits.
R. The Lord is kind and merciful.
He pardons all your iniquities,
he heals all your ills.
He redeems your life from destruction,
he crowns you with kindness and compassion.
R. The Lord is kind and merciful.
The LORD secures justice
and the rights of all the oppressed.
He has made known his ways to Moses,
and his deeds to the children of Israel.
R. The Lord is kind and merciful.

Alleluia See Mt 11:25

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth;
you have revealed to little ones the mysteries of the Kingdom.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel Mt 11:25-27

At that time Jesus exclaimed:
"I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,
for although you have hidden these things
from the wise and the learned
you have revealed them to the childlike.
Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will.
All things have been handed over to me by my Father.
No one knows the Son except the Father,
and no one knows the Father except the Son
and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him."

Daily Meditation: Exodus 3:1-6, 9-12

Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and lead the children of Israel out of Egypt? (Exodus 3:11)

The Scriptures are full of unlikely heroes. Jacob engaged in fraud and trickery to get what he wanted; David was as impulsive as he was zealous; Rahab was a prostitute and belonged to an enemy tribe; and Moses, whose story we begin today, was a murderer who struggled with a speech impediment. Each of these people seemed unfit to serve the Lord, yet each one ended up playing a profound role in salvation history.

While we may view these people as heroes of the faith, we should never forget where and who they were when the Lord first called them. They are proof that, again and again, God chooses people who seem the most unlikely and least equipped rather than the candidates we might be more inclined to select instead. And praise God that this is true! It means there is hope for each of us!

When we feel that the Lord might be calling us to a particular task or to a life of greater love or holiness, we may be tempted to echo Moses' response: "Who am I" that God should use me (Exodus 3:11)? Like Moses, we might argue that our mistakes, weaknesses, or lack of experience makes us unfit for service. But this is precisely why God calls us! He delights in using ordinary people to accomplish his extraordinary plan. He chooses the foolish, the weak, and the obscure to carry out his will (1 Corinthians 1:27-28). Just look at the Virgin Mary: she considered herself among "the lowly," and yet God chose her and lifted her up (Luke 1:52)!

God has a beautiful plan for your life. He invites you to share his goodness with the world. He will use your strengths, and even your weaknesses, to lead people closer to him. You don't need to ask, "But who am I?" Instead, let the Spirit remind you: God has chosen you—and he always pours out grace on those he chooses! That means you can respond just as our Blessed Mother did: "May it be done to me according to your word" (Luke 1:38).

"Yes, Lord, I believe that you can work in and through me today."

Psalm 103:1-4, 6-7
Matthew 11:25-27

Reflections with Brother Adrian:

From today's 1st Holy Scripture:
"God called out to him from the bush, "Moses! Moses!"
He answered, "Here I am."
God said, "Come no nearer!
Remove the sandals from your feet,
for the place where you stand is holy ground.
I am the God of your father," he continued,
"the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob.
The cry of the children of Israel has reached me..."
end of verse.

The Lord hears the cry of the poor, blessed be His name! What cry was it? It was a prayer. Perhaps one of needing deliberation from the great oppression. Finally! And so God moves. When He hears the cry for mercy. Now we should think of our Lord Jesus the Christ! For He is mercy itself! in the flesh!

psalms

We pray today:
"The Lord is kind and merciful.
Bless the LORD, O my soul;
and all my being, bless his holy name.
Bless the LORD, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits."
end of Psalm.

In the Gospel today we heard:
"Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father.
No one knows the Son except the Father,
and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him."
end of Gospel verse.

Our Lord said today "I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things
from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike." end quote.

Much more could be accomplished in the world with a childlike faith than a world filled with very few with very little faith.
Does the world need another miracle?

What about the miracle of the Heart of Jesus, when it poured out water instead of blood? Nowadays, scientists will say it was because of fluids in the body, a congested heart, and lungs and so forth that could've caused this. But that scientific reason doesn't matter! It happened and it happened for a reason, a revelation, a light for all nations.
His blood drained on that mount, and now the earth has that blood. This is actually good. It means we have then, salvation.
And this blood is poured out day by day on all the Holy Altars of the Sacrifice of the Mass, our Lord Himself, from the rising of the sun until the setting of the sun, all praise, and glory and honor, and who is there to receive?
Those who believe. The childlike. Wouldn't you like to have a childlike faith? I do believe it is in you, because you are a child of God.
And it is not as hard as we make faith out to be. It is a choice. They say love is a choice. You can commit to it. And you can make it happen. I've always equated the word "love" with the word "faith". It's as if they were inseparable, to be true love is to be truly faithful.

Let's pray:
Lord, we pray that we see You, and in You that we fall in love with You, and in falling in love with You, that we may be that love on earth as is Your Most Precious will. I pray we are Your living blood.
