Daily Feast

On May 13, 1917, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to three shepherd children as they were grazing their sheep in Fatima, Portugal. Their names were Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta. She appeared "brighter than the sun, shedding rays of light clearer and stronger than a crystal goblet filled with the most sparkling water and pierced by the burning rays of the sun." The Virgin Mary identified herself as Our Lady of the Rosary. She taught the children to recite the rosary daily, to pray for the conversion of sinners, to make small sacrifices as penance in reparation for sin, and to honor her Immaculate Heart. She also prophesied about the World Wars, showed the children a frightening vision of hell, warned of the spread of ideological errors from Russia, and asked that the Holy Father solemnly consecrate Russia to her Immaculate Heart in union with the world's bishops. Our Lady appeared at Fatima on the 13th day of the month from May to October of that year. The final apparition was the well-documented celestial phenomena of the "Miracle of the Sun" witnessed by tens of thousands of people, believers and unbelievers alike. After investigation, the apparition at Fatima was declared worthy of belief by the Catholic Church. The feast of Our Lady of Fatima is May 13th.

Quote of the Day

"Truth sees God, and wisdom contemplates God, and from these two comes a third, a holy and wonderful delight in God, who is love." — St. Juliana of Norwich

Today's Meditation

"No one denies that Jesus Christ is our only mediator of justice, and that he by his merits has obtained our reconciliation with God. But, on the other hand, it is impious to assert that God is not pleased to grant graces at the intercession of his saints, and more especially of Mary his mother, whom Jesus desires so much to see loved and honored by all. Who can pretend that the honor bestowed on a mother doesn't redound to the honor of the son? For this reason St. Bernard says, 'We must not imagine that we obscure the glory of the Son by the great praise we lavish on the mother; for the more she is honored, the greater is the glory of her Son.'" —St. Alphonsus Liguori, p. 3

An excerpt from A Year with Mary

Daily Verse

"A good person out of the store of goodness in his heart produces good, but an evil person out of a store of evil produces evil; for from the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks." — Luke 6:45

Julian/Juliana of Norwich

Mother Julian/Juliana of Norwich (1342–1416) lived as a recluse in Norwich, England. Little is known of her life with certainty. At the age of 30 she was suddenly struck by a severe illness which almost took her life. During this illness she received a series of visions of Jesus Christ in sixteen separate revelations. When she recovered from her illness the visions stopped. Fifteen years later, Our Lord appeared to her to give her the meaning of her visions. St. Julian wrote her visions down in a book called Revelations of Divine Love, the earliest surviving book in the English language known to have been written by a woman. After these revelations she began to live a solitary life as an anchoress in a little cell built into the wall at the church of St. Julian in Norwich, not far from London. During her life the Church was in schism, and England was caught in a long war with France. The book contains a message of optimism based on the certainty of being loved by God and of being protected by his Providence. She received visitors to her cell and gave them guidance on the spiritual life, becoming a spiritual mother to many. St. Julian is an important medieval mystic whose response to the problem of evil is cited in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Although she was never formally beatified or canonized, her feast day is celebrated on May 13th.

Reading I Acts 11:19-26

Those who had been scattered by the persecution
that arose because of Stephen
went as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch,
preaching the word to no one but Jews.
There were some Cypriots and Cyrenians among them, however,
who came to Antioch and began to speak to the Greeks as well,
proclaiming the Lord Jesus.
The hand of the Lord was with them
and a great number who believed turned to the Lord.
The news about them reached the ears of the Church in Jerusalem,
and they sent Barnabas to go to Antioch.
When he arrived and saw the grace of God,
he rejoiced and encouraged them all
to remain faithful to the Lord in firmness of heart,
for he was a good man, filled with the Holy Spirit and faith.
And a large number of people was added to the Lord.
Then he went to Tarsus to look for Saul,
and when he had found him he brought him to Antioch.
For a whole year they met with the Church
and taught a large number of people,
and it was in Antioch that the disciples
were first called Christians.

Responsorial Psalm Psalm 87:1b-3, 4-5, 6-7

R. (117:1a) All you nations, praise the Lord.
or:
R. Alleluia.
His foundation upon the holy mountains

the LORD loves:
The gates of Zion,

more than any dwelling of Jacob.
Glorious things are said of you,

O city of God!

R. All you nations, praise the Lord.
or:
R. Alleluia.
I tell of Egypt and Babylon

among those who know the LORD;
Of Philistia, Tyre, Ethiopia:

"This man was born there."
And of Zion they shall say:

"One and all were born in her;
And he who has established her

is the Most High LORD."

R. All you nations, praise the Lord.
or:
R. Alleluia.
They shall note, when the peoples are enrolled:

"This man was born there."
And all shall sing, in their festive dance:

"My home is within you."

R. All you nations, praise the Lord.
or:
R. Alleluia.

Alleluia John 10:27

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
My sheep hear my voice, says the Lord;
I know them, and they follow me.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel John 10:22-30

The feast of the Dedication was taking place in Jerusalem.
It was winter.
And Jesus walked about in the temple area on the Portico of Solomon.
So the Jews gathered around him and said to him,
"How long are you going to keep us in suspense?
If you are the Christ, tell us plainly."
Jesus answered them, "I told you and you do not believe.
The works I do in my Father's name testify to me.
But you do not believe, because you are not among my sheep.
My sheep hear my voice;
I know them, and they follow me.
I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish.
No one can take them out of my hand.
My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all,
and no one can take them out of the Father's hand.
The Father and I are one."

Daily Meditation: John 10:22-30

My sheep hear my voice. (John 10:27)

Many people were following Jesus, the wonder-worker who taught with great wisdom and authority. There was even speculation that he might be the Messiah. Some of the Jewish leaders, however, expected a different kind of Messiah: one with political power who would overthrow their oppressors and restore the glory of Israel. Yet here was Jesus, calling himself the Good Shepherd and teaching people to love their enemies! So they asked him outright, "If you are the Christ, tell us plainly" (John 10:24).

Jesus replied, "I told you and you do not believe" (John 10:25). He knew these leaders would not understand who he was because they were not part of his "flock." If they were, they would "hear [his] voice" and understand what he was offering them—not freedom from Roman rule, but eternal life (10:27)! The people in Solomon's portico that day—and all who had encountered Jesus—were at a crossroads. Would they put aside their own expectations about the Messiah and choose to listen to his voice?

We know that Jesus is our Good Shepherd and that we are among the sheep who hear his voice. But sometimes we, too, have our own expectations of who Jesus should be and what he should say to us. And these expectations can make it harder for us to hear his voice or let his words find a home in our hearts.

What are you expecting to hear from Jesus? Affirmation? Chastisement? Indifference? Instead of coming to prayer with only your own preconceptions, try to listen to him with an open mind and heart. As you hear the strength and love in his voice, you might even discover, like some of the people in today's Gospel, that your ideas of him are too small!

Today, take the time to hear Jesus' voice. Try to quiet the noise around you, along with the noise in your head. Sit or kneel silently in adoration and wait for him to speak to you. You may not hear him right away, but keep listening. Trust that he will speak to you, and then follow the Good Shepherd wherever he leads you.

"Lord Jesus, help me to hear your voice and follow you, today and every day."

Acts 11:19-26
Psalm 87:1-7

Reflections with Brother Adrian:

Hear AI Read it for u

From today's Holy Gospel:

In the Gospel we hear today:
""How long are you going to keep us in suspense?
If you are the Christ, tell us plainly."
Jesus answered them, "I told you and you do not believe.
The works I do in my Father's name testify to me.
But you do not believe, because you are not among my sheep.
My sheep hear my voice;
I know them, and they follow me.
I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish.
No one can take them out of my hand.
My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all........" - Word of the Lord!

From Roberto Juarez:
"To follow him like a sheep is not blindness, it is to recognize his voice in the midst of noise, to trust in his guidance and to rest in his promise: "no one can snatch them out of my hand".
This word is a source of security and peace: we are in Christ's hands, and those hands are also those of the Father. We are doubly protected. Nothing can snatch us away from divine love if we abide in his voice and in his flock.

• Do I recognize and hear the voice of Jesus in my daily life?

• Do I trust that I am safe in His hands, even in the midst of trials?

• Do I truly believe that the Father and Jesus are one, and that He is the visible face of God's love?

"Lord Jesus,
You are the good Shepherd who knows me and calls me by name.
Teach me to listen to your voice every day,
not to harden my heart before your word,
and to follow you with confidence,
Knowing that nothing can separate me from your love.
Thank you for having me in your hands
and to give me eternal life.
Amen.... End quote.

From brother Adrian:
Our Lord once again says to us "My sheep hear my voice;
I know them, and they follow me."
Most people struggle with this issue: "how do I know when God is speaking?" I've read books, I've wondered for years, in many ministries, I wonder that when I try to sit in silence at the Blessed Sacrament too.

And my studies, and piercings, even into near death experiences, have led me to this understanding and the answer is simple; "You just know." Sounds crazy, but our Lord speaks to the heart, not in audible tones for the ears, but we must connect our hearts. For this, we must be always opened to Him. If you want to hear Him with human ears, then be open to the Christ message, in person, in Mass, in Christian music, Catholic videos, but mostly, we communicate with the heart. I encourage you to use that heart for God! Let Him be Your love and source of all....see what happens.
Our Lady of Fatima, our Mother, pray for us!
