†Saint Quote "As the pilot of a vessel is tried in the storm; as the wrestler is tried in the ring, the soldier in the battle, and the hero in adversity: so is the Christian tried in temptation." –St. Basil the Great †Today's Meditation "The most powerful thing we can do on this earth with our time is to spend it in Eucharistic adoration. Nothing can do more to change the world, to bring about peace, to convert hearts, to make reparation for the many evils committed. Spending time in prayer may seem, on the outside, to be a passive thing; however, it is anything but! Our world is in desperate need of hope, of renewal, of a 'turning back' to the things of God. By visiting Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, we take up the best weapon for the battles of our age and contribute to the healing of our culture. Cultivating a Eucharistic life of adoration also bears tremendous fruit in our own hearts and lives. We cannot spend time in the rays of His Eucharistic Presence without receiving His grace, His love, His mercy, His peace. As we gaze upon Him Face to face, we are transformed little by little into a closer reflection of His divine image." —Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration, p. 37-38 An Excerpt From Manual for Eucharistic Adoration †Daily Verse "But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one. We are confident of you in the Lord that what we instruct you, you [both] are doing and will continue to do. May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the endurance of Christ." –2 Thessalonians 3:3-5 | click to read more | | St. William of Bourges St. William of Bourges (1155–1209), also known as St. William the Confessor, was born to a noble family in France. He was educated under his uncle who was an archdeacon, and from a young age turned away from the world and gave himself over to religion and learning. He became a priest and later entered religious life in a Cistercian monastery, an order famous for strict discipline. St. William was known to be a cheerful man and a hard worker, and pure of heart. He was chosen to be Archbishop of Bourges in the year 1200, much to his dismay. He left the solitude of the monastery out of obedience and entered into the public life of a bishop, throwing himself wholeheartedly into serving both the spiritual and physical needs of the poor. As bishop he continued his great austerities. He had a great devotion to the Blessed Sacrament and would spend much time in prayer at the foot of the altar. He was known for performing miracles both during his life and after his death. He died kneeling at prayer, and by request was buried wearing his hair shirt and lying in ashes. His feast day is January 10. | Tuesday of the First Week in Ordinary Time Reading I Heb 2:5-12 It was not to angels that God subjected the world to come, of which we are speaking. Instead, someone has testified somewhere: What is man that you are mindful of him, or the son of man that you care for him? You made him for a little while lower than the angels; you crowned him with glory and honor, subjecting all things under his feet. In "subjecting" all things to him, he left nothing not "subject to him." Yet at present we do not see "all things subject to him," but we do see Jesus "crowned with glory and honor" because he suffered death, he who "for a little while" was made "lower than the angels," that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone. For it was fitting that he, for whom and through whom all things exist, in bringing many children to glory, should make the leader to their salvation perfect through suffering. He who consecrates and those who are being consecrated all have one origin. Therefore, he is not ashamed to call them "brothers" saying: I will proclaim your name to my brethren, in the midst of the assembly I will praise you. Responsorial Psalm 8:2ab and 5, 6-7, 8-9 R. (see 7) You have given your Son rule over the works of your hands. O LORD, our Lord, how glorious is your name over all the earth! What is man that you should be mindful of him, or the son of man that you should care for him? R. You have given your Son rule over the works of your hands. You have made him little less than the angels, and crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him rule over the works of your hands, putting all things under his feet. R. You have given your Son rule over the works of your hands. All sheep and oxen, yes, and the beasts of the field, The birds of the air, the fishes of the sea, and whatever swims the paths of the seas. R. You have given your Son rule over the works of your hands. Alleluia See 1 Thes 2:13 R. Alleluia, alleluia. Receive the word of God, not as the word of men, but as it truly is, the word of God. R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel Mk 1:21-28 Jesus came to Capernaum with his followers, and on the sabbath he entered the synagogue and taught. The people were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes. In their synagogue was a man with an unclean spirit; he cried out, "What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are–the Holy One of God!" Jesus rebuked him and said, "Quiet! Come out of him!" The unclean spirit convulsed him and with a loud cry came out of him. All were amazed and asked one another, "What is this? A new teaching with authority. He commands even the unclean spirits and they obey him." His fame spread everywhere throughout the whole region of Galilee. | Daily Meditation: Mark 1:21-28 He taught them as one having authority. (Mark 1:22) The congregation in the synagogue felt the authority behind Jesus' teaching. You probably have felt authority too—behind a crossing guard's order, "Let 'em walk," or an umpire's call, "You're out!" You know deep inside that these people have the power to make decisions, give orders, and dole out consequences for disobedience. Perhaps that's how the people who heard Jesus' words felt. We don't know what he taught that day, but between his words and his casting out of a demon, Jesus revealed himself, with authority, as teacher and a life changer. Authority is a good thing. Although we humans can use it in harmful ways, God—who is all-good and all-loving—never does. He uses his authority to bless us and teach us and set us free. We need to decide, though, whether we want to come under his authority. And that means being open and willing to obey his teachings and commands. The blessing is that as we accept his authority in our lives, we open the door for him to show us his ways. So what would Jesus want to show you today? Perhaps he wants to teach you more about how to love your neighbor as yourself, how to treat people with honor and respect, or how to resist the temptation to keep finding fault with others. Perhaps he wants to teach you to respond with kindness and gentleness, even to someone who is being unkind to you. To be patient with one who is dancing on your last nerve. To hold on to joy even when you are sick or grieving. Jesus longs to exercise his loving authority in your life today. He longs to teach you his ways and bring forth a new life of love and holiness in you. It's up to you to accept him. So decide today to say yes to walking in Jesus' ways. And as you follow his lead, you'll find that he is shaping you into a person who is more and more like him. That's the path to living in freedom and love and joy! "Jesus, I open my heart to your authority. Teach me to follow in your footsteps." Hebrews 2:5-12 Psalm 8:2, 5-9 | From today's 1st Holy Scripture: "Yet at present we do not see "all things subject to him," but we do see Jesus "crowned with glory and honor" because he suffered death..." Last night we had a witness talker, and she is faithful to adoration of our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, and at one point said that she asked our Lord about Joy, how could there be joy in suffering or on the cross? And she wept and choked and said that he told her "my child, you are my joy". Boy was that deep! You see, it's not about ourselves, but about who we are dying for. Who we are living for. Who we give life to. They say the definition of love is "willing the good of the other" and so, our Lord takes on the cross and the crown, for greater glory...of God, to reveal God's heart to the world. | We pray today; "You have given your Son rule over the works of your hands. You have made him little less than the angels, and crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him rule over the works of your hands, putting all things under his feet. You have given your Son rule over the works of your hands." Angels are more supreme than humans. They can do things we cannot do. They can do WAY MORE than we could ever do. One angel can change the world. Yet, God designed us to be just a little less than angels, and this means one thing...we need angels. Don't we? After Mass on Sunday, a man that had asked me a few months ago for money to pay doctors, to get a surgery, approached me, walking funny, looked like he lost weight, bald, black mustache, has wife and kids out of town, lives alone. He was walking sideways, I knew something was wrong. Then his story began: "I know I owe you, but I've been hospitalized again, I was clinically dead in a coma, and they were signing papers on my cremation already too, and I rose up suddenly, with my eyes closed, and my daughter said that I was supposed to be dead. Throughout the whole time, for several days, they said some light complected spanish lady was coming in my room to pray every day. And now we cannot find her to thank her. I need gas money". LOL. What's my point? I believe in angels, and I believe this man was visited by an angel. He said that he didn't know he was dead, he said he thought he was eating with that person when she'd enter the room, but he was in a coma. Anyhow, make of it what you will. If you believe, you will see angels, and you can speak with your Guardian angel too. | In the Gospel today we heard: "He commands even the unclean spirits and they obey him." And so we have something to contend with here today in today's Holy Gospel; the very Word of God. For it was merely through the words spoken that evil spirits were dispelled from this person. Think Holy Confession. Think healing. Think of the very mere power of a mere and humble but true prayer that utters out of your lips. I heard of a purgatory story, where a soul was basically saved because years and years ago, someone had prayed quietly "Lord have mercy on your soul". And the Lord heard that prayer from decades ago, and honored it, and mercy was bestowed. And so, now, I'm watching my every word, for every word carries power. And the very Word of God, Jesus, has all the more Power, for His Word is above all angels, He is the supreme Angel, Jesus, and the very name pronounced has power, His Holy Name itself is power itself. And so, I beg you to know, the very power of a pure lover of God has....a soul that loves Jesus will see Him. And so,my child, you can love our Lord like no other, for this is how you were designed unique. The darkness has fooled us into thinking we are nobody, and worthless, but those are all lies so that you will believe it and never use your body to glorify God! Do just the opposite! And the lady giving witness said she was transformed in the encounter and what prayer had taken her into it? The very prayer me and my children pray every single day at 3pm before praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet, and it is a most powerful prayer as said by an exorcist priest, and it is called, The Unity Prayer. Pray it with such reverence and faith, that you are uniting yourself with Christ as this lady did and met Him literally face to face and we are all united in one body and one accord: | My adorable Jesus, May our feet journey together. May our hands gather in unity. May our hearts beat in unison. May our souls be in harmony. May our thoughts be as one. May our ears listen to the silence together. May our glances profoundly penetrate each other. May our lips pray together to gain mercy from the Eternal Father. "I made this prayer completely mine. The Lord meditated on it many times with me, asserting that these are His eternal longings. He taught me this prayer, so that I would in turn teach it to others. With all our strength and mind, let us make our own His eternal thoughts and burning desires." Jesus: "This prayer is an instrument in your hands. By collaborating with Me, Satan will be blinded by it; and because of his blindness, souls will not be led into sin." And a brother asked me how to get the prayer, so there it is my brother! And thank you for serving God. And I told him, that there is a prayer that is tied to this one that she did not mention, and it is one me and my children pray for the world to turn to Christ Jesus as King, and it is the center of the Flame of Love movement going on, and the prayer boosts the Hail Mary to the next level: click to read them all: Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with Thee, blessed are Thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of Thy womb, Jesus.
