†Saint Quote "Love Our Lady and make her loved; always recite the Rosary and recite it as often as possible." –Padre Pio †Today's Meditation Saint John Paul II proposed another set of mysteries that many of us are now familiar with: the Mysteries of Light (Luminous Mysteries). These scenes from the Gospels fill in the gap between Christ's childhood and His Passion with events from His public ministry…They have a distinctly sacramental character not found in the traditional fifteen mysteries. They remind us that our salvation is revealed not just in Jesus' life two thousand years ago, but also in Baptism, Matrimony, the Eucharist, and the other sacraments. – Dan Burke and Connie Rossini, p. 34 An Excerpt From The Contemplative Rosary †Daily Verse "So then, my beloved, obedient as you have always been, not only when I am present but all the more now when I am absent, work out your salvation with fear and trembling. For God is the one who, for his good purpose, works in you both to desire and to work." –Philippians 2:12-13 | click to read more | | St. Justina of Padua St. Justina of Padua (d. 304 A.D.) was a young and pious Christian woman who dedicated her virginity to Christ. She received baptism at the hands of St. Prosdocimus, the first Bishop of Padua in Italy. At the age of sixteen she was arrested for being a Christian under the persecutions of Roman Emperor Maximinian, and was ordered to make sacrifice to the pagan gods. When she refused, she was stabbed with a sword and left to die. Overlooking the field where she was martyred is a basilica named in her honor which holds her relics, as well as those of St. Luke the Evangelist, St. Matthias the Apostle, St. Prosdocimus, and other patron saints of Padua. Her feast was the day the Catholic naval forces won victory over the Turks in the Battle of Lepanto in 1571, which increased her popularity among the faithful. St. Justina of Padua's feast day is October 7th. | Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary • Readings for the Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary Reading 1 GAL 3:7-14 Brothers and sisters: Realize that it is those who have faith who are children of Abraham. Scripture, which saw in advance that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, foretold the good news to Abraham, saying, Through you shall all the nations be blessed. Consequently, those who have faith are blessed along with Abraham who had faith. For all who depend on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, Cursed be everyone who does not persevere in doing all the things written in the book of the law. And that no one is justified before God by the law is clear, for the one who is righteous by faith will live. But the law does not depend on faith; rather, the one who does these things will live by them. Christ ransomed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written, Cursed be everyone who hangs on a tree, that the blessing of Abraham might be extended to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Responsorial Psalm PS 111:1B-2, 3-4, 5-6 R. (5) The Lord will remember his covenant for ever. I will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart in the company and assembly of the just. Great are the works of the LORD, exquisite in all their delights. R. The Lord will remember his covenant for ever. Majesty and glory are his work, and his justice endures forever. He has won renown for his wondrous deeds; gracious and merciful is the LORD. R. The Lord will remember his covenant for ever. He has given food to those who fear him; he will forever be mindful of his covenant. He has made known to his people the power of his works, giving them the inheritance of the nations. R. The Lord will remember his covenant for ever. Alleluia JN 12:31B-32 R. Alleluia, alleluia. The prince of this world will now be cast out, and when I am lifted up from the earth I will draw all to myself, says the Lord. R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel LK 11:15-26 When Jesus had driven out a demon, some of the crowd said: "By the power of Beelzebul, the prince of demons, he drives out demons." Others, to test him, asked him for a sign from heaven. But he knew their thoughts and said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself will be laid waste and house will fall against house. And if Satan is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that it is by Beelzebul that I drive out demons. If I, then, drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your own people drive them out? Therefore they will be your judges. But if it is by the finger of God that I drive out demons, then the Kingdom of God has come upon you. When a strong man fully armed guards his palace, his possessions are safe. But when one stronger than he attacks and overcomes him, he takes away the armor on which he relied and distributes the spoils. Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. "When an unclean spirit goes out of someone, it roams through arid regions searching for rest but, finding none, it says, 'I shall return to my home from which I came.' But upon returning, it finds it swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and brings back seven other spirits more wicked than itself who move in and dwell there, and the last condition of that man is worse than the first." | Daily Meditation: Luke 11:5-13 What father among you would hand his son a snake when he asks for a fish? (Luke 11:11) Anyone who is familiar with the comic strip Peanuts knows that Lucy repeatedly plays a trick on Charlie Brown. She holds a football for him so that he can run up and kick it. And Charlie Brown always falls for it—literally. Just as he is about to kick the ball, Lucy pulls it away. Charlie Brown flies into the air and lands on his back. You'd think he might have developed a trust issue after all those falls! We know that life is not a comic strip. But we may very well have had times where we "got the wind knocked out of us" when a heartfelt prayer was not answered in the way we had hoped for. Or more likely, we have been worn down by a series of everyday disappointments in life or a sense of loneliness or tiredness. We read God's promises in the Bible but don't always see them fulfilled in our lives or in the life of a loved one. God seems unresponsive and our prayers feel mechanical. Put all this together, and you can see how our trust in a good and loving God might start weakening. Keep in mind, though, that when it comes to prayer, you are not dealing with Lucy. God is good. He is a father in the most perfect, loving sense of the word. He's not going to "pull the ball away" and leave you flat. As Jesus tells us in today's Gospel, if human fathers know how to take care of their children and give them good things, how much more does your heavenly Father want to give you only the best—even if you can't see it right away? So whatever your needs are, don't be afraid to bring them before your heavenly Father. He loves you more than you can imagine. And even when you feel like you're not getting an answer from him, you can count on him to give you what you need. So don't give up! Keep asking, keep seeking, keep knocking on heaven's door—and let him show you that he is worthy of your trust. "Father, sometimes it's hard to trust. Help me see your love today and put my trust in your faithfulness." Galatians 3:1-5 (Psalm) Luke 1:69-75 | From today's 1st Holy Scripture: "Cursed be everyone who does not persevere in doing all the things written in the book of the law." So, tell me, is it God who is cursing those who do not follow His law? Or is it one that chooses the curses? Right? In the end...God gave us a choice, our will or His. Mother of God, pray for us to do God's will first. | We pray today; "He has given food to those who fear him; he will forever be mindful of his covenant. He has made known to his people the power of his works, giving them the inheritance of the nations." | In the Gospel today we heard our Master and Teacher: ""Every kingdom divided against itself will be laid waste and house will fall against house." Take heart, for we are in God's Kingdom, which will NOT fall. You may see failure, but not our Lord. We may think it is over, but it is just the beginning. And our Lord is speaking volumes about unity, and disrupting the ways of darkness...and this is where me and you come in...with the light of Christ. | Our Lord continues: "Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters." And where do people go when they turn from God? They turn to darkness. Such is their direction. Such is the direction of sin. "'I shall return to my home from which I came.' These words were from a dark spirit. These words though, should be us speaking to our Lord, wishing to return to Him, to His side, to His bosom, into His hands, when you see all else is vanities, when you see that the truth and life and the way are only through Him. Let us remember that we can house spirits inside of us, inside of our souls, inside of this body. Remember no thing unclean can enter Heaven, and in such a manner, we shall not allow unclean spirits to enter our very self. Our temple shall be made clean and holy. When you cleanse in confession, go make sure you start locking doors to evil spirits, and invite God more and more, our Lord Jesus, the Holy Spirit more to seal up and make no room for darkness.
