†Saint Quote
Quote of the Day
"When you pray, you only have to ask for two things: You should ask for the light to see the will of God, and you have to ask for the courage to be able to do the will of God."
–Venerable Msgr. Aloysius Schwartz

†Today's Meditation
"My great God, you know all that is in the universe, because you yourself have made it. It is the very work of your hands. You are omniscient, because you are omnicreative. You know each part, however minute, as perfectly as you know the whole. You know mind as perfectly as you know matter. You know the thoughts and purposes of every soul as perfectly as if there were no other soul in the whole of your creation. You know me through and through; all my present, past, and future are before you as one whole. You see all those delicate and evanescent motions of my thought which altogether escape myself. You can trace every act, whether deed or thought, to its origin and can follow it into its whole growth and consequences. You know how it will be with me at the end; you have before you that hour when I shall come to you to be judged. How awful is the prospect of finding myself in the presence of my judge! Yet, O Lord, I would not that you should not know me. It is my greatest stay to know that you read my heart. Oh, give me more of that openhearted sincerity which I have desired. Keep me ever from being afraid of your eye, from the inward consciousness that I am not honestly trying to please you. Teach me to love you more, and then I shall be at peace, without any fear of you at all."
—Bl. John Henry Newman, p.150

St. Henry II

Saint Henry II (972-1024 A.D.) was born to the Duke of Bavaria and the Princess of Burgundy. He was a pious child and was given the education of a priest. However, his destiny changed when he succeeded his father as the Duke of Bavaria and took a holy woman as his wife. Upon the sudden death of his cousin he also became the King of Germany. Then, in 1014 A.D. he was crowned Holy Roman Emperor in St. Peter's Basilica by Pope Benedict VIII. St. Henry was determined to rule the empire with justice for the greater glory of God. He was known for his virtue and great faith; when entering any town, he would first pray in a church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. He also invoked the saints to help him in battle against pagan armies. He did much good for his subjects and for the Church, and was graced with many mystical experiences. He and his wife, St. Cunegundes, observed perfect chastity during their marriage and therefore remained childless. Henry tried to enter a monastery after the death of his wife, however, his application was refused because it was thought he would continue to do much good if he remained in the world. St. Henry is the patron of dukes, kings, childless people, the handicapped, and people rejected by religious orders. His feast day is July 13th.

Wednesday of the Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Reading 1 IS 10:5-7, 13B-16

Thus says the LORD:
Woe to Assyria! My rod in anger,
my staff in wrath.
Against an impious nation I send him,
and against a people under my wrath I order him
To seize plunder, carry off loot,
and tread them down like the mud of the streets.
But this is not what he intends,
nor does he have this in mind;
Rather, it is in his heart to destroy,
to make an end of nations not a few.
For he says:
"By my own power I have done it,
and by my wisdom, for I am shrewd.
I have moved the boundaries of peoples,
their treasures I have pillaged,
and, like a giant, I have put down the enthroned.
My hand has seized like a nest
the riches of nations;
As one takes eggs left alone,
so I took in all the earth;
No one fluttered a wing,
or opened a mouth, or chirped!"
Will the axe boast against him who hews with it?
Will the saw exalt itself above him who wields it?
As if a rod could sway him who lifts it,
or a staff him who is not wood!
Therefore the Lord, the LORD of hosts,
will send among his fat ones leanness,
And instead of his glory there will be kindling
like the kindling of fire.

Responsorial Psalm PS 94:5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 14-15

R. (14a) The Lord will not abandon his people.
Your people, O LORD, they trample down,
your inheritance they afflict.
Widow and stranger they slay,
the fatherless they murder.
R. The Lord will not abandon his people.
And they say, "The LORD sees not;
the God of Jacob perceives not."
Understand, you senseless ones among the people;
and, you fools, when will you be wise?
R. The Lord will not abandon his people.
Shall he who shaped the ear not hear?
or he who formed the eye not see?
Shall he who instructs nations not chastise,
he who teaches men knowledge?
R. The Lord will not abandon his people.
For the LORD will not cast off his people,
nor abandon his inheritance;
But judgment shall again be with justice,
and all the upright of heart shall follow it.
R. The Lord will not abandon his people.

Alleluia MT 11:25

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,
you have revealed to little ones the mysteries of the Kingdom.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel MT 11:25-27

At that time Jesus exclaimed:
"I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,
for although you have hidden these things
from the wise and the learned
you have revealed them to the childlike.
Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will.
All things have been handed over to me by my Father.
No one knows the Son except the Father,
and no one knows the Father except the Son
and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him."

Daily Meditation: Matthew 11:25-27

Although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike. (Matthew 11:25)

Think about the amazing advancements in technology that have come about in the past century. Computers that once took up entire rooms now fit on your wrist. People once doomed to die from horrible diseases now go on to live for many happy and healthy years. Airplanes and high-speed trains have made the globe much smaller. And yet the same problems that have dogged us for centuries—poverty, war, crime, abuse—are still around. Why can't all this incredible knowledge help us tackle these issues?

The problem is that technology cannot reveal the most important truth of all: that we are all children of God. Those whom Jesus calls "the wise and the learned"—the ones who rely only on brainpower—can't quite understand this (Matthew 11:25). They can surmise that there is a God, but only God can reveal himself to us. For that to happen, they have to be "childlike" and ask him to show them.

What does it mean to be childlike? It means acknowledging that we were created to have an ongoing relationship with God as our Father: a relationship of love, trust, and dependence. It means believing that God is committed to us as a father is to his children. It means keeping ourselves open to the promptings that our Father gives us.

Here is one way that you can work on being more childlike. Try to take time every day to slow down and sit quietly with Jesus. It's easy to fill our days with activities, chores, and obligations and miss out on deepening our relationship with him. Of course, there is much that we have to do each day, but it's also vital that we not let it consume us.

So spend time just enjoying God's presence. Sit outside and absorb the sun, and thank your Father for the gift of its warmth. Or close your eyes and imagine yourself taking a leisurely walk with Jesus. Put aside all the "grown-up" thoughts for just a short time, and simply enjoy the Lord. Be like a child, and see what your Father reveals to you.

"Father, thank you for calling me your child! Help me to know you, not just as the Almighty, but as my own Father."

Isaiah 10:5-7, 13-16
Psalm 94:5-10, 14-15

From today's 1st Holy Scripture:
"Therefore the Lord, the LORD of hosts, will send among his fat ones leanness, And instead of his glory there will be kindling like the kindling of fire."

And so, if need be, our Lord will light a fire under our feet, in hopes to get us moving. When is the last time you felt a fire to be moved? It is as if it is lacking today, no? What would motivate a people uninterested in the things of God? Famine? Wars? Insurrections? Did not our Lord die and rise again to come to us as in the fire of the Holy Spirit? I believe we need to move, in the Holy Spirit.

psalms

We pray in Psalms:
"For the LORD will not cast off his people,
nor abandon his inheritance; But judgment shall again be with justice, and all the upright of heart shall follow it. The Lord will not abandon his people."

2cents2

In today's Gospel we heard our Lord:
" ...although you have hidden these things
from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike."

To be honest, we could speak of one or two scripture verses for a very long time, a subject matter. And today's could make for volumes of talk. What things has God hidden from the wise? And what are they revealing to the childlike? Someone said that Mother Mary said that our Lord is the same in Heaven as when He was a newborn baby. What does that mean? Again, it means volumes. Therefore, we must not despise His little ones, but show them the Way. And our Lord would reveal Himself and the Way to eternity, and it goes against anything and everything we are taught in the world to be. It is not about brute strength. It is not even about strength in numbers. It is not about all the worldly wisdom. It is not about human power either. What we are in this world is mind boggling, yet, we are cared for. This world is just another world but an extremely important place where God decides to dwell, among freedom, of roses and rose thorns, all in the bushes of beauty and protection. Does this make sense? Every person will get from it to the degree of their childlike faith.

And if all that has been mentioned is not deep enough, it goes even further:
"No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him."_
And once again, we could go into volumes of conversation on the subject matter. So what subject is at hand? God's Kingdom? The essence of God? The relationship between the Father and the Son? Are they not one? And who is being revealed to who?

As much as I'd like to have answers, these are more questions for the questions. The only thing the Spirit of the Lord has conveyed to me is the connection of the "childlike" to "anyone the Son wishes to reveal Him." God will reveal Himself through our Lord Jesus and our Lord Jesus will reveal Himself as He wishes...to the childlike.

Otherwise, what good would it be to reveal Himself to one who is already full of themselves?

And so, we have saints who are pictured with the child Jesus, as He had revealed Himself to them. A child shows the way to Christ, and once again, this don't mean let kids run the place! LOL, all chaos would bust loose, no? But it means to see how they are in their good traits. I observe our 8 children growing, and as a child, they are so beautifully simple, as a dove even. They are not burdened or weighed down, they float across as if they had no body weight, and they laugh at the smallest of things, and they are afraid of scary things, but not afraid to meet others and become the best of friends in an instant. This must be the Love of God in Heaven, and must be yet another reason He says "The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand". There are hidden things among us that we should observe that point to Heaven. The world is shrinking as the population shrinks. It was growing, but is leading to dismal numbers. There are less children to observe as twisted marriages will not produce beautiful children. There are less children as couples decide to adopt dogs instead of children. What does this mean? It means we are failing to appreciate the love of God and the fruit of true love. It means we are hardening up instead of softening up to Him. And it means more now...for He has decided to reveal Himself in a particular way that we are deciding not to see.
Look at the innocence on the cross destroyed. Look at God's only Child. Look at what happened back then and still happens today.

And what can we do now?
He is not dead! But alive! There's still hope because hope lives!
We can still embrace the child of God! JESUS!

JESUS I LOVE YOU WITH MY WHOLE HEART!

From the Hymnal and prayer: JESUS My Lord, My God, My All:

Help us Love Thee more and more! _
O MAKE US LOVE THEE MORE AND MORE!
Had I but Mary's sinless heart
To love thee with, my dearest King,
Oh, with what bursts of fervant praise
Thy goodness, Jesus, would I sing.
Sweet Sacrament, we thee adore;
Oh, make us love thee more and more._

Your brother in Christ,
Adrian
