†Saint Quote
"Reading the Holy Scriptures confers two benefits. It trains the mind to understand them; it turns man's attention from the follies of the world and leads him to the love of God."
— St. Isidore of Seville

†Meditation of the Day
"Man was created for a certain end. This end is to praise, to reverence and to serve the Lord his God and by this means to arrive at eternal salvation. All other beings and objects that surround us on the earth were created for the benefit of man and to be useful to him, as means to his final end; hence his obligation to use, or to abstain from the use of, these creatures, according as they bring him nearer to that end, or tend to separate him from it."

Mary, Mother of the Church⛪

Mary, by virtue of being the mother of Jesus Christ, has always been recognized as the Mother of the Church, which Jesus established during His Passion. Before He expired on the Cross, Jesus gave His final instructions to Mary and John, elevating the nature of their relationship within the Kingdom of God. He said to Mary, "Woman, behold thy son," and to St. John the Beloved (who mystically represents all His disciples), "Behold thy mother." The title "Mother of the Church" was formally bestowed on Our Lady by Pope Paul VI, and she was given a liturgical memorial under this title by Pope Francis. The feast of Mary, Mother of the Church is celebrated on the Monday following Pentecost, highlighting the fact that the Mother of God was praying alongside her spiritual sons, the Twelve Apostles, at the moment when the Holy Spirit descended upon them at Pentecost.

†Verse of the Day
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened."
Matthew 7:7-8

St. Simeon Stylites the Younger

St. Simeon Stylites the Younger (521-596 A.D.) was born in Antioch in ancient Syria (present-day Turkey). Like his namesake and predecessor, Simeon was drawn from a young age to a life of penance and austerity out of his great love for God. His mother was considered a saint. As a young boy he attached himself to a monastery of hermits. Their spiritual director, John, lived night and day at the top of a tall pillar, or "style", within the monastery enclosure. The holy hermits who lived in this manner, separated from the world on top of a pillar, were called "stylites." Simeon the Younger imitated John and lived on a smaller pillar erected near his larger one. Simeon continued to live in this way on three different pillars, each one higher than the next, from boyhood until his death. His final pillar was 12 meters high. During his life he was ordained a deacon and a priest. Disciples gathered around him and would climb a ladder to receive Holy Communion from his hands. He worked many miracles during the course of his life. Hearing of his great sanctity, people came from distant countries for his blessings, cures, prophesies, and spiritual advice. After his death his pillar remained a place of pilgrimage, the ruins of which still exist today. His feast day is May 24.

Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church

Lectionary: 572A
Reading I

Gn 3:9-15, 20

After Adam had eaten of the tree,

the LORD God called to him and asked him, "Where are you?"
He answered, "I heard you in the garden;

but I was afraid, because I was naked,

so I hid myself."
Then he asked, "Who told you that you were naked?
You have eaten, then,

from the tree of which I had forbidden you to eat!"
The man replied, "The woman whom you put here with me—

she gave me fruit from the tree, and so I ate it."
The LORD God then asked the woman,

"Why did you do such a thing?"
The woman answered, "The serpent tricked me into it, so I ate it."

Then the LORD God said to the serpent:
"Because you have done this, you shall be banned

from all the animals

and from all the wild creatures;
On your belly shall you crawl,

and dirt shall you eat

all the days of your life.
I will put enmity between you and the woman,

and between your offspring and hers;
He will strike at your head,

while you strike at his heel."
The man called his wife Eve,

because she became the mother of all the living.

Acts 1:12-14

After Jesus had been taken up to heaven,

the Apostles returned to Jerusalem

from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem,

a sabbath day's journey away.

When they entered the city

they went to the upper room where they were staying,

Peter and John and James and Andrew,

Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew,

James son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot,

and Judas son of James.
All these devoted themselves with one accord to prayer,

together with some women,

and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.

Responsorial Psalm

87:1-2, 3 and 5, 6-7

R. (3) Glorious things are told of you, O city of God
His foundation upon the holy mountains

the LORD loves:
The gates of Zion,

more than any dwelling of Jacob.
R. Glorious things are told of you, O city of God.
Glorious things are said of you,

O city of God!
And of Zion they shall say:

"One and all were born in her;
And he who has established her

is the Most High LORD."
R. Glorious things are told of you, O city of God
They shall note, when the peoples are enrolled:

"This man was born there."
And all shall sing, in their festive dance:

"My home is within you."
R. Glorious things are told of you, O city of God.

Alleluia

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
O happy Virgin, you gave birth to the Lord;

O blessed mother of the Church,

you warm our hearts with the Spirit of your Son Jesus Christ.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel

Jn 19:25-34

Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother

and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas,

and Mary of Magdala.
When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved,

he said to his mother, "Woman, behold, your son."
Then he said to the disciple,

"Behold, your mother."
And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.
After this, aware that everything was now finished,

in order that the Scripture might be fulfilled,

Jesus said, "I thirst."
There was a vessel filled with common wine.
So they put a sponge soaked in wine on a sprig of hyssop

and put it up to his mouth.
When Jesus had taken the wine, he said,

"It is finished."
And bowing his head, he handed over the spirit.

Now since it was preparation day,

in order that the bodies might not remain on the cross on the sabbath,

for the sabbath day of that week was a solemn one,

the Jews asked Pilate that their legs be broken

and they be taken down.
So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first

and then of the other one who was crucified with Jesus.
But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead,

they did not break his legs,

but one soldier thrust his lance into his side,

and immediately Blood and water flowed out.

DAILY MEDITATION: JOHN 21:15-19
Simon, son of John, do you love me? (John 21:16)

You've probably had the experience during this Easter season of renewing your baptismal vows. This often takes place at the Easter Vigil, when the priest asks the congregation a series of questions, such as "Do you renounce sin?" and "Do you believe in Jesus Christ?" The questions are meant to get us to look inside ourselves and resolve to remain in God's grace and keep following the Lord.

When Jesus asks Peter, "Do you love me?" (John 21:15, 16, 17), you could say he's doing something similar. He's not reprimanding Peter as much as giving him the chance to affirm his faith and commitment. Jesus doesn't ask, "What about when you betrayed me? Have you really repented?" or "Are you sure you can do this?" Jesus already knows that Peter loves him. But he wants Peter to look inside himself and acknowledge that love. Jesus' purpose becomes clear when he tells Peter, "Follow me" (21:19). He wants Peter, having reaffirmed his love for Jesus, to step out in faith and move forward with him.

Every day, Jesus invites you to proclaim your love for him. Perhaps not in question form, as he did with Peter, but maybe more as an inner prompting or to renew your commitment to him. It's not because he doubts your love. It's because he wants to strengthen you. He knows that it can be easy to feel burned out in the midst of a long day, and he wants to help you keep his grace in the forefront of your mind.

So be encouraged! Every day, make reaffirming your faith in Christ part of your morning routine. Take a few moments in your daily prayer to make a "morning offering." Respond to Jesus with whatever comes to your heart: "Jesus, I love you! I trust in your promises. Today I want to recommit myself to you." As you start the day proclaiming your desire to follow the Lord, it will make a difference in how you live as his follower in the world.

"Lord, you already know that I love you. Help me to recommit myself to you each day with my whole heart."

Acts 25:13-21
Psalm 103:1-2, 11-12, 19-20

When we go to confession, we pass through a kind of death and, by acknowledging our sin, reach the end of it… Sin is shown its end in accordance with God's punitive judgment, but a new life is also shown its beginning.

my2cents:
"All these devoted themselves with one accord to prayer, together with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers."
They were devoted, and devoted to what? In accord, to prayer. And they prayed with Mary, mother of Jesus, and until this day, we do too, we pray with Mary, the mother of Jesus, and His brothers, and sisters, together, we pray together in one accord. The Scriptures continue to unfold, and live truly alive, and active. We should take every opportunity to pray, together, in one accord, and with the Mother of our Lord.

psalms

We pray in the Psalms:
"They shall note, when the peoples are enrolled: "This man was born there."
And all shall sing, in their festive dance "My home is within you." Glorious things are told of you, O city of God."
What do you suppose our Lord means when He says "My Home is within you". And what do you suppose when we pray that our Home is within Him? And what do you make of it when they say our place is being built in Heaven? It is built as we build in Him, He builds in us. Do you need a home in Heaven? Why do we have homes to begin with? It is a shelter. What are you sheltered from in Heaven? Ahh. Now we can begin to ask true spiritual questions. If God's Heavenly Home is a Mansion, almost the size of half the earth, do you believe He is preparing a room for you? Wouldn't you like to be sheltered in the most tremendous Home in existence? I know I would. Otherwise, outside you sleep with the snakes and critters that invade and take advantage and kill. Now we speak Genesis, and now we see who wanted out of the shelter of God, to get out there in the real world and know what it is like. And it's a battle the whole way...until we get Home, right in with our Lord, and our Father. Think holiness and purity now. Mother of God pray for us.

2cents2

We recall the time our Lord was dying on the cross:
"Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother
and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas,
and Mary of Magdala. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold, your son."
Then he said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother."
From that moment on, from that MOM-meant for the world on, we have a mother in Heaven. Our Lord created a perfect Mother figure for us all. Every child needs a mother, and a father.
Every child nurses from the mother, and every child depends on the father.
What happens to a fatherless child? He wonders and wanders. What happens to a motherless child? They need nourishment of true love.

Father God saw this and gave us at the most precious moment of His life on earth, a sacrifice of Love, a wo-man, from the side of man. There she stood, the new beginning. An impeccable figure of creation. She knew not sin. She only knew love...and Love, because God is Love.

In previous ordinary time scriptures for today, we would've heard about a rich young man who went away sad from Jesus, not glad. Why the long face? He found God, he found Jesus, and went home sad, because he was told to sell all he had, if he wanted to be perfect.
All the disciples and the first Christians sold all they had and followed our Lord, especially those who were at the foot of the cross.
What a high price to find yourself at the foot of our Lord.
It will cost you everything.
Does this make you glad or sad?
What will it take to achieve perfection? It takes everything.
And for that, we need the perfect souls to help us, especially Mother of our Lord, our Mother.
Newer churches teach against suffering. They teach that you need not worry about anyone else or anything except yourself, for you are saved by faith alone. Wrong. Wrong. WRONG. Our Lord shows us the way.
And our Mother is there along the Way. Our Church teaches that only the holy saints and angels are in Heaven. We are not angels, nor shall we ever be, for those are a whole other creation. We are beings of Christ, made in His image. What's more, we are made one into Him in the Sacraments. We are called to so much more.

God did not make it impossible to achieve perfection, or holiness.
God makes all things possible with Christ and sends aid with saints and angels, and His own Mother....our Mother.
If only we desire and pray for this HIS will...Word of the Lord!

Let us pray:
Mother in Heaven, Mother of Jesus, Mother of our Lord, what a battle it is in the Church on earth. It is firstly, a battle within that I cannot seem to win, it is ongoing, it is nonstop, from the moment I awake til the moment I lay down to sleep, and all the time in between. Mother, we need grace from Heaven. Help us achieve the disposition to receive grace, to become one into perfection, the true Body of Christ. Pray for us sinners, now and out the hour of our death. Amen!"

from your brother in Christ our Lord,
adrian

Of David.
Psalm 28:1–2
28

To you, O LORD, I call;

my rock, be not deaf to me,

lest, if you be silent to me,

I become like those who go down to the pit.
2 Hear the voice of my pleas for mercy,

when I cry to you for help,

when I lift up my hands

toward your most holy sanctuary.1
