God Forgives the Maximum

In the Our Father we say: "Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors." This is an equation. If you are not capable of forgiveness, how can God forgive you? The Lord wants to forgive you, but he cannot if you keep your heart closed and mercy cannot enter. One might object: "Father, I forgive, but I cannot forget that awful thing that he did to me…." The answer is to ask the Lord to help you forget. One must forgive as God forgives, and God forgives the maximum."

Quote
"Force yourself, if necessary, always to forgive those who offend you, from the very first moment. For the greatest injury or offense you can suffer from them is nothing compared to what God has forgiven you."
— St. Josemaria Escriva

MEDITATION OF THE DAY
"Like an hourglass with a certain number of grains of sand within it, God has appointed your life to last only a certain number of days, and you have absolutely no idea how many there are. ... In God's presence, consider: I have no idea when my life will end. All I know is that death will come for me eventually. Am I doing anything to prepare for the real possibility that God may call me, sooner rather than later? If he called me into eternity today, would I be ready?"
— Patrick Madrid, p. 190
AN EXCERPT FROM
A Year with the Bible

VERSE OF THE DAY
"For this very reason, you must make every effort to support your faith with goodness, and goodness with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with endurance, and endurance with godliness, and godliness with mutual affection, and mutual affection with love. For if these things are yours and are increasing among you, they keep you from being ineffective and unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ."
2 Peter 1:5-8

ST. LUIGI ORIONE

St. Luigi Orione (1872-1940) was born in northern Italy and entered a Franciscan friary at the age of 13, but had to leave due to poor health. He became a pupil of St. John Bosco at his Turin oratory for boys, and later entered the diocesan seminary. While still a seminarian he opened his own oratory and boarding school to provide for the Christian training and education of boys. This institution became a well-spring for new vocations to the priesthood. He also traveled and founded many other pious congregations for clergy and lay people alike, including two religious orders. The ideal of St. Luigi's life was to provide for the spiritual welfare of others and to serve Jesus Christ and his Church. Many people were attracted to him and his work, and he cared in a special way for the sick, the disabled, and the poor. He was a preacher and confessor, as well as an organizer of pilgrimages, missions, processions, and other public celebrations of the faith. He loved Our Lady deeply and fostered devotion to her among his seminarians. Today his apostolate encompasses about 300 foundations, including schools, hospitals, assisted living facilities, and learning centers on nearly every continent. His body is incorrupt, and he was canonized in 2004. St. Luigi Orione's feast day is March 12th.

Tuesday of the First Week of Lent

Reading 1 Is 55:10-11

Thus says the LORD:
Just as from the heavens
the rain and snow come down
And do not return there
till they have watered the earth,
making it fertile and fruitful,
Giving seed to the one who sows
and bread to the one who eats,
So shall my word be
that goes forth from my mouth;
It shall not return to me void,
but shall do my will,
achieving the end for which I sent it.

Responsorial Psalm PS 34:4-5, 6-7, 16-17, 18-19

R. (18b) From all their distress God rescues the just.
Glorify the LORD with me,
let us together extol his name.
I sought the LORD, and he answered me
and delivered me from all my fears.
R. From all their distress God rescues the just.
Look to him that you may be radiant with joy,
and your faces may not blush with shame.
When the poor one called out, the LORD heard,
and from all his distress he saved him.
R. From all their distress God rescues the just.
The LORD has eyes for the just,
and ears for their cry.
The LORD confronts the evildoers,
to destroy remembrance of them from the earth.
R. From all their distress God rescues the just.
When the just cry out, the LORD hears them,
and from all their distress he rescues them.
The LORD is close to the brokenhearted;
and those who are crushed in spirit he saves.
R. From all their distress God rescues the just.

Verse Before the Gospel Mt 4:4b

One does not live on bread alone,
but on every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.

Gospel Mt 6:7-15

Jesus said to his disciples:
"In praying, do not babble like the pagans,
who think that they will be heard because of their many words.
Do not be like them.
Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

"This is how you are to pray:

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy Kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

"If you forgive men their transgressions,
your heavenly Father will forgive you.
But if you do not forgive men,
neither will your Father forgive your transgressions."

Meditation: Matthew 6:7-15

1st Week of Lent

Our Father who art in heaven . . . (Matthew 6:9)

The Grand Canyon is an outstanding example of stratified—or layered—rock. By studying its colorful layers, geologists have learned much about the canyon and its history. Each layer contains a wealth of information, including a few surprises. For example, did you know that the canyon was once covered by shallow seas, once lush with vegetation, and even once flowing with lava?

Here's another surprise. The canyon can actually be a good image for thinking about the Lord's Prayer. Think about this: As we pray through the Our Father, we are exploring "layers" of revelation about who God is and how he wants us to relate to him. Each turn of phrase, each verse, can tell us something valuable—and there are a few surprises along the way too.

For instance, the very first discovery we make is that God is our Father. We are his children, near to his heart. While this may not be news for us, to those who were hearing Jesus teach about prayer, "Our Father" was probably an unusual beginning. The Hebrew Scriptures did not often describe God as father. They held him in such awe, in fact, that they rarely spoke his name.

As we pray, "Your kingdom come," we learn that God is a king. What's more, we recognize that he is inviting us to work alongside him in building his kingdom. So rather than being an absolute monarch, he welcomes collaborators.

We also find that God is a generous provider. He gives us "our daily bread," the Eucharist, and every other good thing in our lives. When we confess our sins, he lavishes mercy upon us. And he gives us the strength to withstand trials and temptations.

So take a few moments right now to explore the Our Father, layer by layer. Pray through it slowly. Take your time, and pause if a word or phrase catches your attention. It may help to repeat that phrase a few times. Let the words sink into your heart. And take note if you sense peace or joy swelling within you. Just as water flows through the canyon, the Holy Spirit flows into you when you pray this prayer!

"Father, thank you for revealing yourself to me. Open my eyes to your wonders as I turn to you in prayer today."

Isaiah 55:10-11
Psalm 34:4-7, 16-19

I ask you, Holy Mother, to help me to offer myself to Jesus with you and to allow myself to be penetrated by that same presence, so that I may follow Him faithfully, day after day, along whatever paths He leads me.

The Word spoke of Himself: "It shall not return to me void, but shall do my will...". Word of the Lord. Has the Word sunk into your soul? Wouldn't you like to know? Does the Holy Spirit lead your life? It should be by this point. Because in Holy Baptism we receive the Word, even as in infant. You receive Jesus. And your life has an infusion of the Word incarnate. At that point the covenant enters. This is God's promise. Have you fallen away? Have you grown cold in your faith? What can you do? Get back up. Come to the fires of renewal. God's desire was to set the world ablaze with the fire of His love. And that is where we are leading, for this is the guiding light at night and the pillar of smoke by day. Thou shall do His will.

Let us pray today: "Glorify the LORD with me, let us together extol his name. I sought the LORD, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.
From all their distress God rescues the just." A Franciscan reflection had a starter prayer today that said "God, give me the desire to desire what you want me to desire." To search the Lord, it is to seek His desire. I asked a fellow worker turned agnostic, almost atheist "are you still searching for God?" She said "no". And she dismissed what I had offered. You see, you are either continuously searching, or you give up. Nobody ever told Blessed Mother "this is how you will do everything and this is what you will say at every point". No. On the contrary, she simply sought God in everything, and beheld Him, and loved Him...above all. A clear plan is only a clear conscience, that is one formed by the Holy Spirit that is the Holy Will of God.

In the Holy Gospel, our Lord says something that can be twisted if we are not careful: "In praying, do not babble like the pagans, who think that they will be heard because of their many words." Protestants usually at the heart of protesting, have something against our religion. They claim this is the verse where it says it is bad to pray the rosary, because it is repetitive. But it is repetitive to be meditative! There was an other time in the bible that God hated babbling, remember the tower of BABYLon? Where people lost their language? For they had lost their way. What is God asking from us then? Stop praying just words. You can tell when someone is praying sincerely and when one is just saying words or singing words without a heart...without a soul. The prayer should be a true heart to heart. And always. God knows.

Our Lord says ""This is how you are to pray:" and then teaches us the Lord's prayer.
But is it just a prayer? Or is it a way of life!! Amen?

Our Father who art in heaven I was taken in ecstasy to the mount of the skull, and there I saw the darkened figure forsaken in blood, the covenant of supreme love...and my heart said "this is the True Father". Our Father who is in Heaven and calls us to His body.

hallowed be thy name Hallowed is holy. Elevated above all things even though it stoops so low to reach a soul. Holy is His name above all names, always to be Sacred and to be said and prayed with supreme Love...JESUS!!!†

thy Kingdom come Once they crowned Him on earth, and spat on His holy face, the crowns pierced His skin and cracked at His skull. They laughed and mocked Him calling Him King. And this is the Kingdom that was ushered in...I AM the king of suffering and I will love you more!!!†

thy will be done His will was illuminated by the Virgin Mary. She took on the Body of Christ as the ark, carried Him into the world and gave light at giving birth. She shows us what "Be Not Afraid" is...Her Only Son!!!† And Her Son prays the will of the Father and begins to drip blood in prayer...the outpouring had begun as He clenched His fists of ardent desire to save souls.

on earth as it is in heaven. Jesus said He sees what the Father sees and says what the Father says. He spoke in tongues of Psalms. Our Lips should be full of praise and glory to God. We can unite Heaven on Earth as He unites Himself to us.

Give us this day our daily bread And so He unites Himself entirely to us with His most precious Body on earth as it is in Heaven. The Eucharist. Daily. He pours Himself eternally. How can I not seek and desire this most precious food from above made with so much Love? And God calls it "Thank You", thanksgiving.

and forgive us our trespasses, oh we love to be forgiven. Forgiveness is for everyone who desires God. Mercy. Jesus. He will not deny this most precious gift. He forgives us, so long as we seek Him for mercy and are thankful for Mercy, and love Him for being mercy, because forgiveness is what makes the world go round. There is no purpose in this life if there is no love to be had. If you are granted an opportunity, seek Him, seek forgiveness, and "Who knows whether He will not turn and relent And leave a blessing behind Him, Even a grain offering and a drink offering For the LORD your God?" Joel2:14

"as we forgive those who trespass against us" This is the deal maker or breaker. For us to forgive as we will be forgiven. "For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." So be careful in your judgements and condemnations, and your silly language, your babbling and rattling off of endless and pointless words that can deviate a soul. There are souls that have gone past this earth and are awaiting judgement...for the simple reason for having not forgiven another soul. Is this wrong? Is it just? God desires to be one within our souls. Then yes, it is supreme justice. I shall forgive with all my heart, mind, and soul.

and lead us not into temptation Pope Francis wants to change this, and I agree it should, to say "do not let us fall into temptation". This is how we pray the part of the prayer in Spanish. It gives a more clear understanding because our Lord will not lead us to evil, but we pray to be in grace. We pray for us to remain one with Him as once did Adam and Eve. We pray then for His life to flourish in us!!!†

but deliver us from evil. We leave the prayer in a solemn plea to our Savior, for we are but creatures that are susceptible to evils in this world, and a variety at that. The simplest deliverance makes for a soul that is living in joy and grace. We pray to be delivered especially to Him, a final direction directed by inertia upon the death of a life, and for a life given to life eternal. Deliver us Lord into your arms. Deliver us into a pillow of warm love that never ends. Deliver us Lord at the end of the agony. Deliver us to peace and a light that does not end. Deliver us Lord into your Sacred Life!!!†

But our Lord cares so much, He continues for your soul:
"If you forgive men their transgressions... your heavenly Father will forgive you." Sister Mother Angelica, founder of EWTN once said that your enemy can afford you a chance for Heaven. How? Forgiveness. You should be so grateful. If you forgive...you will be forgiven by God. In a couple of life and death experiences I heard, it seemed forgiveness was the thing they were judged on. Why? Because it is right and just and true...it is called love.

Who will love more?
Jesus shows in His Sacred Passion " I LOVE MORE "
I LOVE YOU MORE
You will never outlove ME
But I desire for you to share this passion....
