† "..what HE hears,.."

abner

On May 13, 1917, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to three shepherd children as they were grazing their sheep in Fatima, Portugal. Their names were Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta. She appeared "brighter than the sun, shedding rays of light clearer and stronger than a crystal goblet filled with the most sparkling water and pierced by the burning rays of the sun." The Virgin Mary identified herself as Our Lady of the Rosary. She taught the children to recite the rosary daily, to pray for the conversion of sinners, to make small sacrifices as penance in reparation for sin, and to honor her Immaculate Heart. She also prophesied about the World Wars, showed the children a frightening vision of hell, warned of the spread of ideological errors from Russia, and asked that the Holy Father solemnly consecrate Russia to her Immaculate Heart in union with the world's bishops. Our Lady appeared at Fatima on the 13th day of the month from May to October of that year. The final apparition was the well-documented celestial phenomena of the "Miracle of the Sun" witnessed by tens of thousands of people, believers and unbelievers alike. After investigation, the apparition at Fatima was declared worthy of belief by the Catholic Church. The feast of Our Lady of Fatima is May 13th.

Saint Quote:

“Truth sees God, and wisdom contemplates God, and from these two comes a third, a holy and wonderful delight in God, who is love.” -St. Juliana of Norwich

Today’s Meditation

"No one denies that Jesus Christ is our only mediator of justice, and that he by his merits has obtained our reconciliation with God. But, on the other hand, it is impious to assert that God is not pleased to grant graces at the intercession of his saints, and more especially of Mary his mother, whom Jesus desires so much to see loved and honored by all. Who can pretend that the honor bestowed on a mother doesn't redound to the honor of the son? For this reason St. Bernard says, 'We must not imagine that we obscure the glory of the Son by the great praise we lavish on the mother; for the more she is honored, the greater is the glory of her Son.'" —St. Alphonsus Liguori, p. 3

St Juliana Of Norwich

Mother Julian/Juliana of Norwich (1342–1416) lived as a recluse in Norwich, England. Little is known of her life with certainty. At the age of 30 she was suddenly struck by a severe illness which almost took her life. During this illness she received a series of visions of Jesus Christ in sixteen separate revelations. When she recovered from her illness the visions stopped. Fifteen years later, Our Lord appeared to her to give her the meaning of her visions. St. Julian wrote her visions down in a book called Revelations of Divine Love, the earliest surviving book in the English language known to have been written by a woman. After these revelations she began to live a solitary life as an anchoress in a little cell built into the wall at the church of St. Julian in Norwich, not far from London. During her life the Church was in schism, and England was caught in a long war with France. The book contains a message of optimism based on the certainty of being loved by God and of being protected by his Providence. She received visitors to her cell and gave them guidance on the spiritual life, becoming a spiritual mother to many. St. Julian is an important medieval mystic whose response to the problem of evil is cited in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Although she was never formally beatified or canonized, her feast day is celebrated on May 13th.

Wednesday of the Sixth Week of Easter

Lectionary: 293

Reading 1

Acts 17:15, 22—18:1

After Paul's escorts had taken him to Athens,

they came away with instructions for Silas and Timothy

to join him as soon as possible.

Then Paul stood up at the Areopagus and said:

"You Athenians, I see that in every respect

you are very religious.

For as I walked around looking carefully at your shrines,

I even discovered an altar inscribed, 'To an Unknown God.'

What therefore you unknowingly worship, I proclaim to you.

The God who made the world and all that is in it,

the Lord of heaven and earth,

does not dwell in sanctuaries made by human hands,

nor is he served by human hands because he needs anything.

Rather it is he who gives to everyone life and breath and everything.

He made from one the whole human race

to dwell on the entire surface of the earth,

and he fixed the ordered seasons and the boundaries of their regions,

so that people might seek God,

even perhaps grope for him and find him,

though indeed he is not far from any one of us.

For 'In him we live and move and have our being,'

as even some of your poets have said,

'For we too are his offspring.'

Since therefore we are the offspring of God,

we ought not to think that the divinity is like an image

fashioned from gold, silver, or stone by human art and imagination.

God has overlooked the times of ignorance,

but now he demands that all people everywhere repent

because he has established a day on which he will 'judge the world

with justice' through a man he has appointed,

and he has provided confirmation for all

by raising him from the dead."

When they heard about resurrection of the dead,

some began to scoff, but others said,

"We should like to hear you on this some other time."

And so Paul left them.

But some did join him, and became believers.

Among them were Dionysius,

a member of the Court of the Areopagus,

a woman named Damaris, and others with them.

After this he left Athens and went to Corinth.

Gospel

John 16:12-15

Jesus said to his disciples:

"I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now.

But when he comes, the Spirit of truth,

he will guide you to all truth.

He will not speak on his own,

but he will speak what he hears,

and will declare to you the things that are coming.

He will glorify me,

because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.

Everything that the Father has is mine;

for this reason I told you that he will take from what is mine

and declare it to you."

Daily Meditation: Acts 17:15, 22–18:1

He is not far from any one of us. (Acts 17:27)

St. Paul had arrived in Athens, the cultural heart of the Greek world. His preaching in the synagogue and even “in the public square” had attracted the attention of some of the city’s leading philosophers, who invited him to address them (17:18-19). Finding an entry point in the existence of a shrine in the city dedicated “to an Unknown God,” Paul proclaimed that this “unknown” god has revealed himself through the resurrection of Jesus from the dead (17:23). He assured them that if they turned away from all their false idols and toward this God, they would find him because “he is not far from any one of us” (17:27).

Have you ever felt like the Athenians, groping in the dark and seeking a distant, unknown, and unknowable God? Maybe you knew, from the magnificence of creation, that God exists, but the huge scale of creation made him seem impressive yet hard to relate to. Or maybe you just felt that he wouldn’t bother to show himself to you because of your past sins. Or maybe this describes a friend or loved one. Whatever the case, we can all rely on Paul’s amazing proclamation that this God is not far from any one of us!

Dwell on this for a moment. The Creator of all space and time is not far from you. Or as St. Augustine wrote, God is interior intimo meo—he is more inward than your innermost self. What’s more, the God who is present in you looks on you with love, mercy, and goodwill. His presence within you is not for condemnation, even though he knows the complete truth about you. Even when he sees your sins and weaknesses, he sees a child whom he loves and longs to heal and restore.

In the quiet of prayer today, know that your Father is with you. Believe that he loves you personally and with a joy-filled, sin-forgiving, transforming love. It’s this love that moved God to become man in Jesus Christ, that propelled Paul and all the apostles to preach to the nations, and that is now available to you today. It’s true; the One who created the galaxies knows you individually. He is filled with love for you. He wants nothing but good for you. So seek him today; he is not far from you!

“Father, I know you are here with me!”

Reflections with Brother Adrian:

From today's Holy Gospel:

".."I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now.

But when he comes, the Spirit of truth,

he will guide you to all truth.

He will not speak on his own,

but he will speak what he hears,

and will declare to you the things that are coming. .. ”

From Roberto Juarez:

"This Gospel also reminds us of something essential: The Church does not walk alone. Throughout history it has gone through difficulties, crises, persecutions. And yet, the Spirit continues to guide her.

But to let ourselves be guided, we need to listen. And many times we live full of noise, haste, worries, distractions. The Spirit speaks in the depths, in the silence of the heart.
Sometimes we want to control everything, always be right, understand everything immediately. But faith also implies humility: letting ourselves be led by God. Trust even when we don't see everything clearly.

Today the Lord invites us to open ourselves to the Holy Spirit, to let ourselves be guided, to seek the profound truth and to walk with confidence.

Let us ask that the Spirit of truth may illuminate our lives, help us to understand the Gospel, and lead us more and more to Christ. Because we don't walk alone. The Holy Spirit continues to act, continues to teach, and continues to guide the Church to the full truth."
end quote.

Can you imagine how immense our Lord is? I mean, Father God! We cannot fathom His capacity. To try to fathom it is too much. The "unknown God" cannot be fully known. The mystery then...is where we are at. Faith.
Our Lord Jesus said it Himself, that "we cannot bear it now", if He were to have told us everything, nothing would have made sense! And here we are over two thousand years later, still trying to make sense of it all! And we do not even have EVERYTHING He said. The Gospels tell us that we would not have enough books to contain everything He said! We only have talk points, what little they could remember to write down! LOL.
And we are racking our heads on it...
And so our Lord said "Have Faith".

I know we need to understand. I know we need answers. But patience teaches. And the root word of patience is pator, the root word of patience is the Latin verb patior, which means "to suffer," "to endure," or "to undergo".

Then, revelations come. Like Juliana of Norwich (1342–1416), who is beatified, she was struck with a sickness that just about killed her, and during the illness, our Lord began appearing to her.

After she got well, then our Lord started explaining the visions she had while she was sick.
One of them is the revelation of why there is sin in the world, which is now in our catechism teachings.
We cannot contain the greater good in our minds that have labeled what is good.
Atheists struggle with this, like those in the occult, declaring to know what is better....than even the good that our Lord has offered.
Thus is the answer to unanswered prayers. Thus is the calling for greater faith...and therefore...greater love of God through it all.
Does this help you? Cling to Him through thick and thin. To who else can we go? Our Lord has words of everlasting LIFE!
Come Holy Spirit! Show us! Dwell in us! Come to us!
