†Saint Quote "The goodness of God is the highest object of prayer, and it reaches down to our lowest need. It quickens our soul and gives it life, and makes it grow in grace and virtue." –St. Julian of Norwich †Today's Meditation "All creatures that exist are in the hands of God. The action of the creature can only be perceived by the senses, but faith sees in all things the action of the Creator. It believes that in Jesus Christ all things live, and that His divine operation continues to the end of time, embracing the passing moment and the smallest created atom in its hidden life and mysterious action." —Fr. This is the first commandment with a promise, that it may go well with you and that you may have a long life on earth. Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up with the training and instruction of the Lord. Slaves, be obedient to your human masters with fear and trembling, in sincerity of heart, as to Christ, not only when being watched, as currying favor, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, willingly serving the Lord and not men, knowing that each will be requited from the Lord for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free. Masters, act in the same way towards them, and stop bullying, knowing that both they and you have a Master in heaven and that with him there is no partiality. God has called us through the Gospel to possess the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel Lk 13:22-30 Jesus passed through towns and villages, teaching as he went and making his way to Jerusalem. Someone asked him, "Lord, will only a few people be saved?" He answered them, "Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter but will not be strong enough. After the master of the house has arisen and locked the door, then will you stand outside knocking and saying, 'Lord, open the door for us.' He will say to you in reply, 'I do not know where you are from.' And you will say, 'We ate and drank in your company and you taught in our streets.' Then he will say to you, 'I do not know where you are from. Depart from me, all you evildoers!' And there will be wailing and grinding of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and all the prophets in the Kingdom of God and you yourselves cast out. And people will come from the east and the west and from the north and the south and will recline at table in the Kingdom of God. For behold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last." | Daily Meditation: Luke 13:22-30 Strive to enter through the narrow gate. (Luke 13:24) The people listening to Jesus must have wondered what he meant by the "narrow gate." Was he implying that the way to salvation is so difficult that only the holiest people will be able to squeeze through? Not at all! But he was saying that the gate that leads to salvation is Jesus himself and his grace, which sets us free from sin. This revelation was at the heart of Jesus' preaching and the experience of the first Christians. For instance, when Paul met the risen Lord, he realized that only by Jesus' grace could he ever hope to be made righteous before God. Everything else—his status, his learning, and his strict adherence to Jewish law—was "a loss because of the supreme good of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord" (Philippians 3:8). This is such good news that we can often find it hard to grasp. It means that we don't have to be perfect before we come to Jesus; we just have to yield to the grace of the Lord Jesus himself so that we can enter his "narrow gate" and find the way to eternal life. So why, then, does Jesus say that we must "strive" to enter the narrow gate and that "many . . . will attempt to enter but will not be strong enough" (Luke 13:24)? Because while only Jesus can save us, walking in his ways every day can be difficult. It means obeying Jesus' commandments and loving our neighbor as he loves us. As we all know, this often requires sacrifice and self-denial. No wonder so many people choose the wide and easy road! But we can persevere because Jesus not only welcomes us through the narrow gate; he walks with us and gives us his grace each day. We don't have to rely only on our own strength; Jesus is there to help us with every decision we make to love, to sacrifice, and to obey. Today, imagine Jesus welcoming you to walk with him through the narrow gate. He already knows all your struggles and failings, and he knows you can't achieve salvation on your own. Trust that he will be your constant traveling companion on the road you have chosen and will give you all the grace and mercy you need each day to follow him. "Jesus, thank you for being my Savior. I trust that you will give me everything I need to follow you today." Ephesians 6:1-9 Psalm 145:10-14 | From today's 1st Holy Scripture: "Honor your father and mother. This is the first commandment with a promise, that it may go well with you and that you may have a long life on earth." What does it mean to honor? Some may equate everything to the word "respect", but I don't believe this is enough. How does a real student honor the master? Now we get into a mode of servitude, with reverence even. I'm not a pro, nor a master at this. I am like many...someone that is simply trying to be, what we are being called to be at this very moment...God's creation and design...and child. | We pray today; "Let all your works give you thanks, O LORD, and let your faithful ones bless you. Let them discourse of the glory of your Kingdom and speak of your might. The Lord is faithful in all his words." | In the Gospel today we heard our Master and Teacher: "Lord, will only a few people be saved?" He answered them, "Strive to enter through the narrow gate" If you are an optimist, we could read this in a positive light, and say "see how He says to STRIVE". That would be key. That we never give up trying. And that there is value in perseverance. And we should never stop, because we could be on our way in the perseverance of the saints. I need encouragement. And so do you. Lord help us. | 'I do not know where you are from. Depart from me, all you evildoers!' It is one thing to know of the Lord, but it is another to actually know Him Himself. Let's take a well known person, like movie stars or even a parish priest, well known, supposedly. But how many actually know the person themselves, the priest themselves? It isn't until you get to know them personally, that everything changes...a real relationship is formed. A real bond. A real knowing. And to "know" is to be on intimate terms. And there is no better intimacy with our Lord than in the Holy Sacraments, especially the Holy Eucharist...Christ Himself. .................
