† "Who Has Been Drinking Old..."

mornignofferin

†Saint Quote
"Quote of the Day
"I am sent not only to love God but to make Him loved. It is not enough for me to love God, if my neighbor does not love Him."
–St. Vincent de Paul

†Today's Meditation
"Even though we know that God's will and commandments apply to everyone, we do not always have the strength to fulfill them. Now, every time we respond faithfully to a motion of the Spirit, out of desire to be docile to what God expects of us, even if it's something almost insignificant of itself, that faithfulness draws grace and strength down on us. That strength can then be applied to other areas and may make us capable of one day practicing the commandments that up until then we had not been capable of fulfilling entirely."
—Fr. Jacques Philippe, p. 20

An Excerpt From
In the School of the Holy Spirit

†Daily Verse
"Therefore, we are not discouraged; rather, although our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this momentary light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to what is seen but to what is unseen; for what is seen is transitory, but what is unseen is eternal."
–2 Corinthians 4:16-18

St. Brocard

St. Brocard (d. 1231 A.D.) was a Frenchman who traveled to the Holy Land to enter into religious life there. He was among the first group of hermits to establish a community of monks on Mount Carmel. Details of his life are scarce, but it is believed that St. Brocard was the prior of the community after the death of St. Berthold, who is considered to be the founder of the Carmelites. Brocard, as the new leader of the community, desired to formalize the monks' way of life on Mt. Carmel. He requested that St. Albert, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, write and establish a rule of life for the community, which he then imposed on the group as their discipline. The Rule of St. Albert established the Carmelites as a new religious order. St. Brocard was considered an expert on Islam and Eastern affairs and was to accompany St. Albert to the Fourth Lateran Council, were it not for St. Albert's murder before the Council convened. The Council suppressed the creation of new religious orders, which put the Carmelites in a tenuous position as they were not approved by the Holy See prior to this new decree. St. Brocard led the community through an uncertain period until they achieved special approval from the Holy Father. St. Brocard's feast day is September 2nd.

Friday of the Twenty-second Week in Ordinary Time

Lectionary: 435
Reading 1

1 COR 4:1-5

Brothers and sisters:
Thus should one regard us: as servants of Christ
and stewards of the mysteries of God.
Now it is of course required of stewards
that they be found trustworthy.
It does not concern me in the least
that I be judged by you or any human tribunal;
I do not even pass judgment on myself;
I am not conscious of anything against me,
but I do not thereby stand acquitted;
the one who judges me is the Lord.
Therefore, do not make any judgment before the appointed time,
until the Lord comes,
for he will bring to light what is hidden in darkness
and will manifest the motives of our hearts,
and then everyone will receive praise from God.

Responsorial Psalm

PS 37:3-4, 5-6, 27-28, 39-40

R. (39a) The salvation of the just comes from the Lord.
Trust in the LORD and do good,
that you may dwell in the land and be fed in security.
Take delight in the LORD,
and he will grant you your heart's requests.
R. The salvation of the just comes from the Lord.
Commit to the LORD your way;
trust in him, and he will act.
He will make justice dawn for you like the light;
bright as the noonday shall be your vindication.
R. The salvation of the just comes from the Lord.
Turn from evil and do good,
that you may abide forever;
For the LORD loves what is right,
and forsakes not his faithful ones.
Criminals are destroyed
and the posterity of the wicked is cut off.
R. The salvation of the just comes from the Lord.
The salvation of the just is from the LORD;
he is their refuge in time of distress.
And the LORD helps them and delivers them;
he delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
because they take refuge in him.
R. The salvation of the just comes from the Lord.

Alleluia

JN 8:12

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
I am the light of the world, says the Lord;
whoever follows me will have the light of life.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel

LK 5:33-39

The scribes and Pharisees said to Jesus,
"The disciples of John the Baptist fast often and offer prayers,
and the disciples of the Pharisees do the same;
but yours eat and drink."
Jesus answered them, "Can you make the wedding guests fast
while the bridegroom is with them?
But the days will come, and when the bridegroom is taken away from them,
then they will fast in those days."
And he also told them a parable.
"No one tears a piece from a new cloak to patch an old one.
Otherwise, he will tear the new
and the piece from it will not match the old cloak.
Likewise, no one pours new wine into old wineskins.
Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins,
and it will be spilled, and the skins will be ruined.
Rather, new wine must be poured into fresh wineskins.
And no one who has been drinking old wine desires new,
for he says, 'The old is good.'"

Daily Meditation: 1 Corinthians 4:1-5

Everyone will receive praise from God. (1 Corinthians 4:5)

Does this sentence strike you as a little odd? Up to this point, St. Paul has been talking about the Lord coming on the day of judgment to "bring to light what is hidden in darkness" (1 Corinthians 4:5). That idea probably conjures up images of us standing shamefaced before God, hearing him list off every hidden sin we have ever committed. So why does Paul end by saying that "everyone will receive praise from God" (4:5)?

Well, imagine God looking into your heart. What do you think he would see? Jealousy? Anger? Selfishness? Probably, but also love, faith, and dedication. After all, he sees everything. So it's quite possible that what is "hidden" is not only what is wrong with us, but also what is right. And that's what God will praise us for.

We often focus more on our faults than our good qualities, especially when we think of God's judgment. But God sees the whole picture of who we are. That means, of course, that he knows about the darkness in you. But he also knows about the light—even when it's not obvious to you. For instance, where you might see only the grudge you hold against a family member, God also sees your struggle as you try to forgive.

That doesn't mean God excuses your sins or wants you to focus only on your good side. But it does mean that he wants you to keep a balanced perspective about who you are, about the gifts he's given you, and about the virtues he has already developed in you.

It's like the relationship between a parent and a child. A good father doesn't constantly criticize a child to get her to change her behavior. He sees her potential. He encourages her and tells her what she is doing right. He praises her when she makes progress, even as he corrects her when she goes astray.

Does the thought of coming under God's judgment make you uneasy? Remember this passage. Remember that God is your heavenly Father. Then let him shine his light on both the good and the not so good in you. Ask him to show you the love and compassion that fill him as he looks on you.

"Come, Lord, and search my heart!"

Psalm 37:3-6, 27-28, 39-40
Luke 5:33-39

From today's 1st Holy Scripture:
"Thus should one regard us: as servants of Christ
and stewards of the mysteries of God."

What the Holy Church needs is Holy Servants of Christ, those who will be ushering the mysteries of God. But nobody wants to be holy, nor do they want to be servants. For many years, it has felt like pulling teeth. Except lately, I think, and I hope I am right, something is trending to the direction of a desire to return...to God our Father. How much? Only you can tell Him...directly with your life.

psalms

We pray today;
"Turn from evil and do good, that you may abide forever;
For the LORD loves what is right, and forsakes not his faithful ones. Criminals are destroyed and the posterity of the wicked is cut off. The salvation of the just comes from the Lord."

And what does our Lord's name mean? Je-Sus, means He-Saves. And it almost seems that the name says "He's-Us". This means, He desires to save through us. With us. And in us. Can He work and reside in us to do God's will?

2cents2

In the Gospel today we heard:
"But the days will come, and when the bridegroom is taken away from them,
then they will fast in those days."

The bridegroom is our Lord Jesus, and we, the Holy Church, are His bride. What do a newlywed couple do?

Tomorrow my cousin gets married and people are coming in from all over to celebrate. I am so happy for them. They been together for a while, and lived together, but something happened that they decided to do something new, something strange in our modern day world....to actually get married....with God. You see, you are now the Church Marrying Jesus!

"...new wine must be poured into fresh wineskins.
And no one who has been drinking old wine desires new,
for he says, 'The old is good.'"

And our Lord says new wine requires new skins. Something new will become the old, and the old is still good. And they say in Heaven, things are always new, but the old remains of course, but the old is good, right? They say that we humans are needing stability, to flourish, as a child, we need mommy and daddy to grow up, and if in Church, it is way better, at least, you'll have better chances at flourishing....for God's Kingdom.
And so, God is asking His bride to marry Him...in Jesus. Because God is beyond comprehension, He sends Himself in the form of man, Jesus, for us to be one with Him, intimately.

I'm hoping my cousin Marisol, and Alex, have children. This marriage symbolizes what God does with mankind (humans). He creates. But what we create in flesh, He creates in Spirit...a soul. Now the value of a person comes into full view. A baby brings much love and joy into the couple's lives. Creation becomes love. The world has it wrong when they say "make love", no my friend, it is to "make a child". Me and my wife have brought 8 kids in the world. My house, is full of laughs, some cries, but mostly joy. Darkness hates joy, and light. And so we must protect our children, our creation with a spiritual hedge. We must learn to defend, our faith, our love....for angels are at stake and helping us to God Himself.

Do you understand the wedding...the wine, and the sacrifice of when the groom, the husband is taken away?
I am fasting now, and I'm not supposed to say, but we are in a 40 day fast for St. Michael...defender of God's will. He is an Archangel that we seek to help us in this never ending battle...of the will, of the heart, mind, and soul. Jesus was taken from us. But He is not far from us. He is only a whisper away. He seeks us so that we may join in an everlasting and loving union, forever and ever. What God joins, let no man, no thing ever divide!

Heavenly Lord, may we be Thy Love forever and ever, and may we love Thee more and more, precious Heart of Jesus hear us.

It is First Friday. We are called to go and adore Him where He is, in the Holy Blessed Sacrament.
