†Saint Quote
"Cheerfulness prepares a glorious mind for all the noblest acts."
— St. Elizabeth Ann Seton

†MEDITATION OF THE DAY
"The true reason for which God bestows so many graces upon the humble is this, that the humble are faithful to these graces and make good use of them. They receive them from God and use them in a manner pleasing to God, giving all the glory to Him, without reserving any for themselves. ... It is certainly true that he who is humble is also faithful to God, because the humble man is also just in giving to all their due, and above all, in rendering to God the things that are God's; that is, in giving Him the glory for all the good that he is, all the good that he has and for all the good that he does; as the Venerable Bede says: 'Whatever good we see in ourselves, let us ascribe it to God and not to ourselves.' To give thanks to God for all the blessings we have received and are continually receiving is an excellent means of exercising humility, because by thanksgiving we learn to acknowledge the Supreme Giver of every good. And for this reason it is necessary for us always to be humble before God. St. Paul exhorts us to render thanks for all things and at all times: 'In all things give thanks.' (1 Thess. 5:18). 'Giving thanks always for all things.' (Eph. 5:20). But that our thanksgiving may be an act of humility it must not only come from the lips but from the heart, with a firm conviction that all good comes to us through the infinite mercy of God."

†VERSE OF THE DAY
"Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, [love] is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. If there are prophecies, they will be brought to nothing; if tongues, they will cease; if knowledge, it will be brought to nothing."
1 Corinthians 13:4-8

ST. EDWARD THE CONFESSOR

St. Edward the Confessor (1003-1066 A.D.) was a prince born to the King and Queen of England. His family was exiled from the kingdom when the Danish took control of the country in 1016 A.D. Edward spent much of his life in exile, probably in Normandy. Witnessing the folly of worldly ambition, he became attracted to the life of the Church and grew in piety. When opportunity arose he was persuaded to reclaim the throne of England, which he did in 1042 as one of its last Anglo-Saxon kings. The people supported his rule, and he gained a reputation as a just king committed to the welfare of his subjects. He thwarted invasions, ended unjust taxes, and was profoundly generous to the poor. His reign was marked by peace and prosperity throughout his kingdom. He married a beautiful woman to satisfy the people's desire for a queen, but, having already made a vow of chastity, he obtained his wife's agreement to live together as brother and sister. He was buried in Westminster Abbey, which he built, and after his death many miracles were ascribed to his intercession. This lead to his canonization in 1161, and in 1163 the transferral of his body to a new tomb. This was presided over by St. Thomas Becket, the Archbishop of Canterbury, who found Edward's body to be incorrupt. Edward was called "The Confessor" to distinguish him from St. Edward the Martyr. He is buried behind the high altar in Westminster Abbey. He is the patron of kings, difficult marriages, separated spouses, and the English royal family. His feast day is October 13th.

Wednesday of the Twenty-eighth Week in Ordinary Time

Lectionary: 469
Reading I

Rom 2:1-11

You, O man, are without excuse, every one of you who passes judgment.
For by the standard by which you judge another you condemn yourself,
since you, the judge, do the very same things.
We know that the judgment of God on those who do such things is true.
Do you suppose, then, you who judge those who engage in such things
and yet do them yourself,
that you will escape the judgment of God?
Or do you hold his priceless kindness, forbearance, and patience
in low esteem, unaware that the kindness of God
would lead you to repentance?
By your stubbornness and impenitent heart,
you are storing up wrath for yourself
for the day of wrath and revelation
of the just judgment of God,
who will repay everyone according to his works,
eternal life to those who seek glory, honor, and immortality
through perseverance in good works,
but wrath and fury to those who selfishly disobey the truth
and obey wickedness.
Yes, affliction and distress will come upon everyone
who does evil, Jew first and then Greek.
But there will be glory, honor, and peace for everyone
who does good, Jew first and then Greek.
There is no partiality with God.

Responsorial Psalm

62:2-3, 6-7, 9

R. (13b) Lord, you give back to everyone according to his works.
Only in God is my soul at rest;

from him comes my salvation.
He only is my rock and my salvation,

my stronghold; I shall not be disturbed at all.
R. Lord, you give back to everyone according to his works.
Only in God be at rest, my soul,

for from him comes my hope.
He only is my rock and my salvation,

my stronghold; I shall not be disturbed.
R. Lord, you give back to everyone according to his works.
Trust in him at all times, O my people!

Pour out your hearts before him;

God is our refuge!
R. Lord, you give back to everyone according to his works.

Alleluia

Jn 10:27

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
My sheep hear my voice, says the Lord;
I know them, and they follow me.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel
Lk 11:42-46

The Lord said:
"Woe to you Pharisees!
You pay tithes of mint and of rue and of every garden herb,
but you pay no attention to judgment and to love for God.
These you should have done, without overlooking the others.
Woe to you Pharisees!
You love the seat of honor in synagogues
and greetings in marketplaces.

Woe to you!
You are like unseen graves over which people unknowingly walk."

Then one of the scholars of the law said to him in reply,
"Teacher, by saying this you are insulting us too."
And he said, "Woe also to you scholars of the law!
You impose on people burdens hard to carry,
but you yourselves do not lift one finger to touch them."

Daily Meditation: Romans 2:1-11

The kindness of God would lead you to repentance. (Romans 2:4)

Paul's descriptions of God's judgment in this passage might leave us shaking in our boots. He certainly painted a serious picture for the Romans! They had been condemning other people when they were guilty of the very same sins, so Paul warned them that God will "repay everyone according to his works" (Romans 2:6).

We know that we will all face judgment. But until that time, how does God deal with our sinfulness? He shows us "priceless kindness, forbearance, and patience" (Romans 2:4). And he does this because he wants to lead us to repent and return to him. He deeply wants us to enter into that close friendship with him that we were created for.

In his kindness, God is like the parent who waits up for his teenager to come home after breaking curfew, makes sure he is unharmed, and then asks questions to help him learn from his mistakes. This father helps his son face the consequences of his poor choices, and he offers heartfelt forgiveness so that his son can make a fresh start.

Jesus was patient with everyone, including the worst of sinners. He stuck with his disciples despite their countless missteps. And then, in the clearest possible sign of his patience and kindness, he offered his life for us on the cross. All so that he could open the way for us to return to the Father.

Today, Jesus stretches out his hand to grab hold of yours. He asks you to let go of the sin that drags you down. In him, our heavenly Father hasn't just revealed his desire to save us. God has come alongside us, and he has dealt with the deepest root of our sinfulness. He has opened for us the way back to himself.

This is the patience of God. This is his forbearance. This is his kindness, which lovingly calls us to repentance.

"Father, let me never take your kindness for granted."

Psalm 62:2-3, 6-7, 9

From Today's Holy Scripture:
"You, O man, are without excuse, every one of you who passes judgment.
For by the standard by which you judge another you condemn yourself,
since you, the judge, do the very same things.
We know that the judgment of God on those who do such things is true."

And which is greater? Your judgement? Or the judgement of God? What He says goes.

Let me give you some tid bits of advice from a guy who has been trying to be Holy His.
Listen to God. In my case, maybe yours, His voice many times is an unnerving voice coming from others, even irritating. And that's when I have to swallow my pride, and that is when I try really hard to listen. Truth speaks. It may be what you like, is not necessarily what He likes. Truth be told. It may be that you have to give what you are not willing to give. Truth alive.

psalms

We pray in Psalms:
"Trust in him at all times, O my people! Pour out your hearts before him; God is our refuge! Lord, you give back to everyone according to his works."
You've heard of "Karma" and "what goes around comes around". This is the dumbed watered down version of knowing what it is to do good and the good benefits it can bring...like when it comes to Mercy. Be merciful, and you too will be given mercy.
You should be shrewd, and humble at the same time.

2cents2

Our Lord speaks, the TRUTH speaks:
He says the 3 Woes:
""Woe to you Pharisees!
You pay tithes of mint and of rue and of every garden herb,
but you pay no attention to judgment and to love for God.
These you should have done, without overlooking the others.
Woe to you Pharisees!
You love the seat of honor in synagogues
and greetings in marketplaces."

The core of the message...no attention paid to the love of God. You just do things He says but you do not love Him truthfully.

"Woe to you Pharisees! You love the seat of honor in synagogues and greetings in marketplaces. Woe to you! You are like unseen graves over which people unknowingly walk."

Have you ever seen a Pharisee in real life? They love to be noticed for their religiousness. They love to be honored. Their head is huge! I've seen one, and he was big time on networks, saw him in real life, and I seen him signing books with a huge smile, living the life of a star. And that star became a black hole. Humility has no place in their hearts, as they become the most selfish person on the planet...as they live the mantra "it's all about me", the modern day mantra that is about a few thousand years old.

The third woe: "Then one of the scholars of the law said to him in reply, "Teacher, by saying this you are insulting us too."
And he said, "Woe also to you scholars of the law!
You impose on people burdens hard to carry,
but you yourselves do not lift one finger to touch them."

Have you ever seen a leader that is more of a dictator? A true leader is the greatest servant. I always remember when I'd ride ATV's in the hills of sand, and suddenly groups would join to follow, I'd always make sure I was a good leader, not going too fast, and always looking behind to see if anyone was left behind. Why did I do this? Because there were times I'd follow a pack and it was like they could care less, all they knew was to show off and go extremely fast. What about the pack?

What about the flock.
What about your flock?
Who is being left behind?
The greatest shall be the least.
The last shall be first.
The least shall be first.
Jesus becomes the last and least.

Let's pray:
Lord, lead me.
Father, guide me.
Holy Spirit, live in me and inspire me.
Jesus, you are the way, the tempo, the beat of my heart.
Be with Me always!

from your brother in Christ,
Adrian
