†Saint Quote
"When we contemplate the sufferings of Jesus He grants us, according to the measure of our faith, the grace to practice the virtues He revealed during those sacred hours." Bl Columba Marmion

†Today's Meditation
"When we have too many vocal prayers to say, our goal easily changes to getting them done instead of praying them well. They become less, rather than more, contemplative. The Holy Spirt might be moving us to linger silently on the meditation of a mystery, but we feel that we can't stop or we will never fit all our prayers in. So we find ourselves working against the Holy Spirit…We forget that the very purpose of prayer is communing with the Lord."

"And this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever possesses the Son has life; whoever does not possess the Son of God does not have life." 1 John 5:11-12

St. Elizabeth of the Trinity

St. Elizabeth of the Trinity (1880-1906) was born on July 18, 1880 in Cher, France. Her father died when she was only 7 years old her family moved to Dijon France. Very close to her house was a Carmelite monastery and she greatly desired to enter the religious life. At 17 years old she visited the monastery, and while there, the mother superior gave her a newly published letter about Therese of Lisieux, who had just recently passed away. As a result, Elizabeth was greatly inspired in her contemplative life. She continued working with the sick and teaching catechism to the youth until she was allowed to enter the monastery at the age of 21. She lived a life of prayer and sacrifice, suffering greatly from sickness. She died on November 9, 1906 and was canonized by Pope Francis on October 16, 2016.

Tuesday of the Thirty-second Week in Ordinary Time

Reading 1 Ti 2:1-8, 11-14

Beloved:
You must say what is consistent with sound doctrine,
namely, that older men should be temperate, dignified,
self-controlled, sound in faith, love, and endurance.
Similarly, older women should be reverent in their behavior,
not slanderers, not addicted to drink,
teaching what is good, so that they may train younger women
to love their husbands and children,
to be self-controlled, chaste, good homemakers,
under the control of their husbands,
so that the word of God may not be discredited.
Urge the younger men, similarly, to control themselves,
showing yourself as a model of good deeds in every respect,
with integrity in your teaching, dignity, and sound speech
that cannot be criticized,
so that the opponent will be put to shame
without anything bad to say about us.
For the grace of God has appeared, saving all
and training us to reject godless ways and worldly desires
and to live temperately, justly, and devoutly in this age,
as we await the blessed hope,
the appearance of the glory of the great God
and of our savior Jesus Christ,
who gave himself for us to deliver us from all lawlessness
and to cleanse for himself a people as his own,
eager to do what is good.

Responsorial Psalm 37:3-4, 18 and 23, 27 and 29

R. (39a) The salvation of the just comes from the Lord.
Trust in the LORD and do good,
that you may dwell in the land and be fed in security.
Take delight in the LORD,
and he will grant you your heart's requests.
R. The salvation of the just comes from the Lord.
The LORD watches over the lives of the wholehearted;
their inheritance lasts forever.
By the LORD are the steps of a man made firm,
and he approves his way.
R. The salvation of the just comes from the Lord.
Turn from evil and do good,
that you may abide forever;
The just shall possess the land
and dwell in it forever.
R. The salvation of the just comes from the Lord.

Alleluia Jn 14:23

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Whoever loves me will keep my word,
and my Father will love him,
and we will come to him.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel Lk 17:7-10

Jesus said to the Apostles:
"Who among you would say to your servant
who has just come in from plowing or tending sheep in the field,
'Come here immediately and take your place at table'?
Would he not rather say to him,
'Prepare something for me to eat.
Put on your apron and wait on me while I eat and drink.
You may eat and drink when I am finished'?
Is he grateful to that servant because he did what was commanded?
So should it be with you.
When you have done all you have been commanded, say,
'We are unprofitable servants;
we have done what we were obliged to do.'"

Daily Meditation: Luke 17:7-10

We have done what we were obliged to do. (Luke 17:10)

The word "gospel" means "good news," but sometimes that news—like today's Gospel reading from Luke—can make us feel a bit uncomfortable. Jesus talks about serving God and taking care of what he wants done even when we have unmet needs of our own. He talks about doing all that's commanded and counting it as only our "duty." We should expect no special gratitude because obeying his commands doesn't make us special; it makes us obedient servants. And that shoe pinches a little, doesn't it?

So what is Jesus saying here? Is our relationship with him supposed to resemble that of a master and his slave? Well, God does ask us to obey his commands, but we also know that Jesus died and rose so that we could become his beloved sons and daughters. The real slavery he freed us from is slavery to our worldly passions and desires. Now he invites us into a relationship based on love and mercy, one that involves a divine exchange of our hearts with his. We give him the love that we have in our hearts, and he gives us . . . himself!

As that exchange happens, your acts of obedience are rooted less and less in a sense of obligation and more and more in love for God. And not just in the love you have for God but in the love he has for you. Even when you can't feel it, God is still pouring his love into you through his Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5). That means you can keep serving when you're tired. Or hungry. Or worried. When the baby is fussy, the boss is demanding, or the friend is complaining. All because of this divine exchange of love.

The next time you find yourself struggling to meet yet another need, take a moment to cry out to the Lord, "Increase your love in me!" Trust the Holy Spirit to show you how to receive that love and to give you evidence that it is growing in you. Then you can say, "I am just doing what I am obliged to do," and know the love that eases the pinch.

"Jesus, help me to trust you and experience your love for me as I grow in being your obedient servant."

Titus 2:1-8, 11-14

From today's 1st Holy Scripture:
"For the grace of God has appeared, saving all
and training us to reject godless ways and worldly desires and to live temperately..."

How many have heard the line "I'm not religious, I'm spiritual"?
Why would someone say that? It sounds to me like a cop out excuse as if to say the word religious is a negative connotation, and that goes even deeper, because it says in a sense, "I live by my own rules". Right? It says "I go by feelings". And sadly, much of the world works like this, very base, very anti-spiritual even, because the spirits we follow have their rule. It gets pretty deep, pretty quick.

psalms

We pray today;
_"Turn from evil and do good, that you may abide forever;
The just shall possess the land and dwell in it forever.

The salvation of the just comes from the Lord."_

What is evil, that we may never do evil? What is good that we may do good forever? To do good is to do God's will, and to do God's will means salvation. It's not about what I want, it's about what God wants. If you've read this, take note.

2cents2

In the Gospel today we heard our Master and Teacher:
"'Prepare something for me to eat.
Put on your apron and wait on me while I eat and drink. You may eat and drink when I am finished'

How's that kind of treatment after working outside all day, tired, and wanting to rest and eat, right? Where is justice there?

If you've been reading my 2 cents, you've known full well I've been on a rampage about two things lately: Number one: Eucharist. Number 2 Obedience.
Eucharist is God.
Obedience to God is the point.
Had I not obeyed my parents, I would not have received God into my life.
You see where obedience can take you?

Obedience can take you much further than even what we believe is love. God's love is not all what we make it out to be.

Nowadays, people are lackadaisical about true love, because it calls for extreme humility and suffering. A true servant will come in, not expecting a thanks but maybe a beating on the head or heart. That's how I feel about ministries and helping people. You should see how many stabs in the back I receive instead of a "thank you". And it ranges anywhere from family, to work, and even with ingratitude in church.

I told my wife whence we helped a couple relatives moved in with us to help them get on their feet "expect nothing but a kick in the rear when they leave this house", but fast forward years later, the opposite happened, a deepening of relationship occured, but this is how we are to see everything we do when we....give.
GIVE.
To give is to expect NOTHING in return. Sometimes giving will even get you into trouble.

But give anyways.
Take the cue from our Lord Jesus, who gave healing, and correction, and love, and He was crucified. That's what he was guilty of, trespassing someone's ideals of love.
You see how deep this gets, pretty quick?
God's version of love still over rides anything we may have known about love.
This includes anything to do with righteousness.
What HE SAYS GOES. HE's THE BOSS.

Back to the word lackadaisical meaning: listless, spiritless mean lacking energy or enthusiasm. languid refers to an unwillingness or inability to exert oneself due, : lacking life, spirit, or zest.
And this is the life we give to the spirit? That's not life! That's a death warrant!
What are you giving life to?
Give life to God's will! Give life to Love!

Expect not a thank you but more work.
That is a reward from Heaven.
Then you will be truly happy.

.................
Lord, Father, Master, I do as Thy wishes, Thy will is my life, my command.
