†Saint Quote

"Quote of the Day
"For a Son of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is a man on fire with love, who spreads its flames wherever he goes. He desires mightily and strives by all means possible to set the whole world on fire with God's love. Nothing daunts him; he delights in privations, welcomes work, embraces sacrifices, smiles at slander, and rejoices in suffering. His only concern is how he can best follow Jesus Christ and imitate Him in working, suffering, and striving constantly and single-mindedly for the greater glory of God and the salvation of souls."
–St. Anthony Mary Claret

†Today's Meditation
"Our Lord, by descending into hell, planted (if I may thus express myself), in the spiritual garden of the Church, a mysterious tree, the fruits of which—namely, His merits—are destined for the constant relief of the Poor Souls in Purgatory. The Church Militant must cultivate the tree, and gather its fruits, in order to present them to that suffering portion of the Church which can do nothing for itself. Thus it is with all the merits of Christ; we must labor with Him if we wish to obtain our share of them; we must gain our bread by the sweat of our brow. Everything which Our Lord has done for us in time must produce fruit for eternity; but we must gather these fruits in time, without which we cannot possess them in eternity. The Church is the most prudent and thoughtful of mothers; the ecclesiastical year is an immense and magnificent garden, in which all those fruits for eternity are gathered together, that we may make use of them in time. Each year contains sufficient to supply the wants of all; but woe be to that careless or dishonest gardener who allows any of the fruit committed to his care to perish; if he fails to turn to a proper account those grace which would restore health to the sick, strength to the weak, or furnish food to the hungry! When the Day of Judgment arrives, the Master of the garden will demand a strict account, not only of every tree, but also of all the fruit produced in the garden."

St. Martin De Porres

St. Martin de Porres (1569-1639) was born in Lima, Peru. He was the illegitimate son of a Spanish nobleman and a freed slave woman from Panama, of either African or Native American descent. His parents never married. For the first eight years of his life his father did not acknowledge him, and abandoned the family after Martin's sister was born. St. Martin de Porres was raised in poverty with the societal stigma of being mix-raced. As a young man he served as an assistant to a barber-surgeon where he learned medicine and the care of the sick. When he was 15 he joined the Dominican friars as a helper, eventually becoming a Lay Brother which at the time was forbidden for the children of slaves by Peruvian law. He took on the work of nursing the sick in the Dominican infirmary as well as the sick among the townspeople, even giving a sick man his own bed. He was also made almoner, and begged money to assist his work with the poor and sick. He founded an orphanage, tended to slaves brought from Africa, and dispensed alms to the needy. His prayers and penances were so great that he soon demonstrated miraculous powers. In addition to healing the sick, his other miracles were bi-location, levitation, hidden knowledge, and the ability to communicate with animals. Word of his sanctity spread and people from all walks of life came to him for spiritual direction. St. Martin de Porres is the patron saint of social justice, bi-racial people, African-Americans, hairdressers, barbers, public education, public health, and the poor. His feast day is November 3rd.

Thursday of the Thirty-first Week in Ordinary Time

Reading 1 PHIL 3:3-8A

Brothers and sisters:
We are the circumcision,
we who worship through the Spirit of God,
who boast in Christ Jesus and do not put our confidence in flesh,
although I myself have grounds for confidence even in the flesh.
If anyone else thinks he can be confident in flesh, all the more can I.

Circumcised on the eighth day,
of the race of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin,
a Hebrew of Hebrew parentage,
in observance of the law a Pharisee,
in zeal I persecuted the Church,
in righteousness based on the law I was blameless.
But whatever gains I had,
these I have come to consider a loss because of Christ.
More than that, I even consider everything as a loss
because of the supreme good of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.

Responsorial Psalm PS 105:2-3, 4-5, 6-7

R. (3b) Let hearts rejoice who search for the Lord.
or:
R. Alleluia.
Sing to him, sing his praise,
proclaim all his wondrous deeds.
Glory in his holy name;
rejoice, O hearts that seek the LORD!
R. Let hearts rejoice who search for the Lord.
or:
R. Alleluia.
Look to the LORD in his strength;
seek to serve him constantly.
Recall the wondrous deeds that he has wrought,
his portents, and the judgments he has uttered.
R. Let hearts rejoice who search for the Lord.
or:
R. Alleluia.
You descendants of Abraham, his servants,
sons of Jacob, his chosen ones!
He, the LORD, is our God;
throughout the earth his judgments prevail.
R. Let hearts rejoice who search for the Lord.
or:
R. Alleluia.

Alleluia MT 11:28

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened,
and I will give you rest, says the Lord.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel LK 15:1-10

The tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to listen to Jesus,
but the Pharisees and scribes began to complain, saying,
"This man welcomes sinners and eats with them."
So Jesus addressed this parable to them.
"What man among you having a hundred sheep and losing one of them
would not leave the ninety-nine in the desert
and go after the lost one until he finds it?
And when he does find it,
he sets it on his shoulders with great joy
and, upon his arrival home,
he calls together his friends and neighbors and says to them,
'Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.'
I tell you, in just the same way
there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents
than over ninety-nine righteous people
who have no need of repentance.
"Or what woman having ten coins and losing one
would not light a lamp and sweep the house,
searching carefully until she finds it?
And when she does find it,
she calls together her friends and neighbors
and says to them,
'Rejoice with me because I have found the coin that I lost.'
In just the same way, I tell you,
there will be rejoicing among the angels of God
over one sinner who repents."

Daily Meditation: Luke 15:1-10

I have found my lost sheep. (Luke 15:6)

If you want a snapshot of what radiates from the heart of God—his love, his kindness, his persistence—you just have to reflect on today's Gospel reading. In Jesus' two parables, we see a God who will go out into the wilderness and turn things upside down in order to bring his lost ones home.

We know this to be true because each of us has seen and heard about people whose lives were radically changed when they turn to the Lord. Though the stories differ in the details, they all have a common thread: they show us a God who loved them fiercely enough to pursue them through all of life's circumstances. They also tell us that our God isn't just concerned about the person who has it all together. He goes after the far-off, the confused, the rebellious, and the forsaken.

Think of the man who grew up with gang violence and committed devastating crimes. God finds him behind bars. Or the woman who lives on the streets and is addicted to drugs. God finds her in a shelter, heals her emotional wounds, and frees her from her addiction. Or the atheist millionaire who seems to have everything but can't escape a feeling of emptiness. God finds him when he is alone in his office and gives him a new vision for his life.

Our Father sent Jesus into the world to rescue us from the dominion of darkness and bring us into his kingdom of light (Colossians 1:13). That means that God won't ever stop pursuing us. He wants all of his children to enjoy his love and to experience the healing and freedom that he offers. This is true for us, and it's true for our families, our friends, our neighbors, and our coworkers. It's even true for the person you'd least expect to turn to him!

Today, let's rest in the confidence of a God who loves us more than we can fathom. He will go after the one lost sheep when ninety-nine are safe, and he rejoices with all the saints and angels in heaven when he finds him (Luke 15:7). If he has done this for so many before us, surely he will continue to do it until the end of time.

"Lord, bring home all those who are lost and confused, especially the people I am praying for right now."

Philippians 3:3-8
Psalm 105:2-7

From today's 1st Holy Scripture:
"More than that, I even consider everything as a loss
because of the supreme good of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord."

Everything I love wastes away. Everything is temporary. Every body dies. It would be better if I loved things eternal, and therefore...the source of eternity itself...God Himself. Whatever He is I may never know...but I know He sent His Son, the very image of Himself to show us to Himself. Ours is a special calling, for light to exist in the darkness.

psalms

We pray today;
"Look to the LORD in his strength;
seek to serve him constantly. Recall the wondrous deeds that he has wrought, his portents, and the judgments he has uttered. Let hearts rejoice who search for the Lord"

Seek Him. Seek to love Him. Once you find His love, you will seek to serve Him. Seek to serve Love.

2cents2

In the Gospel today we heard our Master and Teacher:
"I tell you, in just the same way
there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents
than over ninety-nine righteous people
who have no need of repentance."

Recall our Lord said once in Mark 2:17: ""It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."
Take heart my child, our Lord has come to seek for You. What if this whole world was created for you? What if everything you did actually matters? What if Heaven is counting on you my child? What if that's how crazy love works? This means tremendous things. Angels and saints are here for you to call on them to serve, not you as God but to serve God through you! How crazy is this teaching? Yet, this is the experience of a loving soul with God. Like Mother Teresa of Calcutta who loved St. Teresa the little flower, my oh my how little things turn to fruitful things.
And so, the righteous don't need God, but we do. So long as we live on earth, we starve and thirst....for the living God. Everybody does, whether they admit it or not. We all starve and thirst for...love. Mother Teresa saw this starvation, was real in all forms both physical and spiritual.

Let us be filled with Love to be able to give to Love. Let us turn to our Lord Jesus in the Holy Sacraments of the Holy Catholic Church. Let us begin the outpouring that Heaven desires.

The world teaches darkness, that you are nothing, and are only worth what you can do. Not true.
Our Lord seeks to dwell in you. He is restless for You. He never sleeps. He is always desiring to live and move within You. What's more, I find it that it is more easy to allow Him to work in you than evil. It takes much effort for evil to finally take possession of you. But not God. He can work wonders and marvels in an instant.

So why fight it any longer?

.................
Lord, You search me and you know me. You formed me in my mother's womb. If You formed me, then You Love me. I wish to love you in return, in all those that I encounter every day of every life you have given me, because every day is a new life....everything is new with You.
