† ". Before The People ."

†Saint Quote
"If I am distracted, Holy Communion helps me to become recollected. If opportunities are offered by each day to offend my God, I arm myself anew each day for the combat by the reception of the Eucharist. If I am in special need of light and prudence in order to discharge my burdensome duties, I draw nigh to my Savior and seek counsel and light from him."
–St. Thomas More

†Today's Meditation
"Let them fly with utter confidence to this most sweet Mother of mercy and grace in all dangers, difficulties, needs, doubts, and fears. Under her guidance, under her patronage, under her kindness and protection, nothing is to be feared; nothing is hopeless. Because, while bearing toward us a truly motherly affection and having in her care the work of our salvation, she is solicitous about the whole human race. And since she has been appointed by God to be the Queen of heaven and earth, and is exalted above all the choirs of angels and saints, and even stands at the right hand of her only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, she presents our petitions in a most efficacious manner. When she asks, she obtains. Her pleas can never be unheard."
— Blessed Pope Pius IX, p.84

†Daily Verse
"But if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and he will be given it. But he should ask in faith, not doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed about by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord, since he is a man of two minds, unstable in all his ways."
–James 1:5-8

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton (1774–1821) was born in New York City to a wealthy, virtuous, and influential family. She married a businessman, and together they lived on Wall Street. They attended an Episcopalian church where Elizabeth was very active in charitable works to the poor. When her father-in-law died, she became like a mother to her husband's six younger siblings, in addition to her own five children. During a trip to Italy she was introduced to Catholicism, and she converted to the Catholic Church following the death of her husband. After losing her family fortune, Elizabeth spent her life working to improve education and provide for the poor, as well as the needs of her family. She established the first Catholic school in the nation, and also founded the Sisters of Charity, the first American religious community. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton was the first native-born citizen of the United States to be declared a saint. She is also the patron of widows and those who have lost parents or children. Her feast day is January 4th.

Reading I 1 Jn 4:7-10

Beloved, let us love one another,
because love is of God;
everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God.
Whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love.
In this way the love of God was revealed to us:
God sent his only-begotten Son into the world
so that we might have life through him.
In this is love:
not that we have loved God, but that he loved us

and sent his Son as expiation for our sins.

Responsorial Psalm 72:1-2, 3-4, 7-8

R. (see 11) Lord, every nation on earth will adore you.
O God, with your judgment endow the king,
and with your justice, the king's son;
He shall govern your people with justice
and your afflicted ones with judgment.
R. Lord, every nation on earth will adore you.
The mountains shall yield peace for the people,
and the hills justice.
He shall defend the afflicted among the people,
save the children of the poor.
R. Lord, every nation on earth will adore you.
Justice shall flower in his days,
and profound peace, till the moon be no more.
May he rule from sea to sea,
and from the River to the ends of the earth.
R. Lord, every nation on earth will adore you.

Alleluia Lk 4:18

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
The Lord has sent me to bring glad tidings to the poor
and to proclaim liberty to captives.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel Mk 6:34-44

When Jesus saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them,
for they were like sheep without a shepherd;
and he began to teach them many things.
By now it was already late and his disciples approached him and said,
"This is a deserted place and it is already very late.
Dismiss them so that they can go
to the surrounding farms and villages
and buy themselves something to eat."
He said to them in reply,
"Give them some food yourselves."
But they said to him,
"Are we to buy two hundred days' wages worth of food
and give it to them to eat?"
He asked them, "How many loaves do you have? Go and see."
And when they had found out they said,
"Five loaves and two fish."
So he gave orders to have them sit down in groups on the green grass.
The people took their places in rows by hundreds and by fifties.
Then, taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven,
he said the blessing, broke the loaves, and gave them to his disciples
to set before the people;
he also divided the two fish among them all.
They all ate and were satisfied.
And they picked up twelve wicker baskets full of fragments
and what was left of the fish.
Those who ate of the loaves were five thousand men.

DAILY MEDITATION: 1 JOHN 4:7-10
God is love. (1 John 4:8)

As Christians, we believe that God is the source of all love. He is love, as St. John says in today's first reading. And he has most fully expressed his love by sending his Son into the world "so that we might have life through him" (1 John 4:9). Because we know the love of God through Jesus Christ, we want other people to know it too, especially those who are far from him. How do we do that? Through love, of course!

One of the best ways you can love another person is by taking the time to get to know them and allowing them to get to know you. Such a friendship can grow as you try to anticipate a need they might have or show them in some other way that you care for them. As you build a loving, trusting relationship with that person, he or she will be more open to hearing about how much your faith means to you and how Jesus has worked in your life.

Even as you spend time with this person, you can be interceding for them. You can ask the Lord to give you his heart for this person—to see them through his eyes. You can also pray that they experience God's love in such a personal way that it moves them to seek him and recognize him as the source of blessings in their life.

Intercession is also a great way to share the love of the Lord with someone whom you might not have a lot of daily interaction with—a distant friend or relative, for example, or someone with whom you may have a complicated relationship. It's what you can do when you aren't sure what else to do.

Even if you don't see any change in a person, don't give up. While you may never see that person profess faith this side of heaven, you can still trust that you have in some way connected them to God through your love and prayers. Never underestimate the effect this can have on someone's life.

God is love, and through his Son Jesus, he lives in us. May we always be looking for opportunities to become bearers of Christ's love to those who most need it!

"Jesus, show me how to touch other people with your love."

Psalm 72:1-4, 7-8
Mark 6:34-44

From today's 1st Holy Scripture:
"In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as expiation for our sins."

Our Lord send His Love. Help us Lord with love.

psalms

We pray in Psalms:
"The mountains shall yield peace for the people,
and the hills justice.
He shall defend the afflicted among the people,
save the children of the poor. Lord, every nation on earth will adore you."

We are afflicted. And all we can do is turn to the Lord. We need defense. We need children saved. Lord hear us. Graciously hear us.

2cents2

We heard in the Gospel today:
"When Jesus saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them,
for they were like sheep without a shepherd;
and he began to teach them many things."

Lord knows how many are lost in this world. Lord help us with faith too see the Way. Grant us grace and life that we may follow with praise and gratitude.
And our Lord has compassion. And feeds the faithful...the ones who were lost.

Let's pray;
Lord God Heavenly Father....we are lost.
We need help. I pray for my dad to heal from his pneumonia...I pray we can all heal together and love You more and more...
For the good of God's Kingdom...In your precious name Jesus we pray.

from your brother in Christ,
Adrian
