A Cosmic Resurrection

Part of the great mystery of life is that it's just as hard to see the ecstasy and beauty of things as it is to accept the crucifixion of things. Both are the paschal mystery—Christ has died, Christ is risen—and both are an utter act of faith and surrender. In fact, when I see how the negative response comes first to most people, I wonder if the seeing of the Resurrection is not actually the harder act of faith. We find this in all four Gospel accounts, and I think it is more significant than we imagined—not just doubting Jesus's personal resurrection, but equally doubting our own, that of others, and the ability of God to turn all human crucifixions into a cosmic resurrection.

†Saint Quote
"I place trust in God, my creator, in all things; I love Him with all my heart."
— St. Joan of Arc

PRAYER DURING CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC
O clement, O loving, O sweet Mother Mary,
We, your children of every nation,
Turn to you in this pandemic.
Our troubles are numerous; our fears are great.
Grant that we might deposit them at your feet,
Take refuge in your Immaculate Heart,
And obtain peace, healing, rescue,
And timely help in all our needs.
You are our Mother.
Pray for us to your Son.
Amen.

PRAYER OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there, and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

† MEDITATION OF THE DAY
"In times of spiritual coldness and laziness, imagine in your heart those times in the past when you were full of zeal and solicitude in all things, even the smallest. Remember your past efforts and the energy with which you opposed those who wanted to obstruct your progress. These recollections will reawaken your soul from its deep sleep, will invest it once more with the fire of zeal, will raise it, as it were, from the dead, and will make it engage in an ardent struggle against the Devil and sin, thus being restored to its former height."
— St. Isaak of Syria, p. 146
AN EXCERPT FROM
Manual for Spiritual Warfare

† VERSE OF THE DAY
"Therefore, thus says the Lord God: See, I am laying a stone in Zion, a stone that has been tested, A precious cornerstone as a sure foundation; whoever puts faith in it will not waver."
Isaiah 28:16

ST. BEDE THE VENERABLE

St. Bede (672–735 A.D.), also known as the Venerable Bede, was born to a wealthy family in England. At the age of seven he was sent to the Benedictine monastery to be educated by the monks. He discerned a vocation to the monastic life, and devoted himself to prayer and to the study of Sacred Scripture and Church history. After being ordained at the age of thirty, he went on to become a prolific writer and teacher. He was considered to be a genius and was widely famous for his theological works and knowledge of ecclesiastical history. He was also well-versed in all the natural sciences known in his day, making him an extraordinary scholar whose influence spread throughout Europe for centuries. During his life he was also considered to be a saint, and his writings were so filled with heavenly wisdom that a Church council ordered them to be read publicly in the churches. Bede was given the name Venerable not long after his death, and centuries later was named a Doctor of the Church. St. Bede's feast day is celebrated on May 25th.

Monday of the Seventh Week of Easter

Reading 1 Acts 19:1-8

While Apollos was in Corinth,
Paul traveled through the interior of the country
and down to Ephesus where he found some disciples.
He said to them,
"Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you became believers?"
They answered him,
"We have never even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."
He said, "How were you baptized?"
They replied, "With the baptism of John."
Paul then said, "John baptized with a baptism of repentance,
telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him,
that is, in Jesus."
When they heard this,
they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
And when Paul laid his hands on them,
the Holy Spirit came upon them,
and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.
Altogether there were about twelve men.
He entered the synagogue, and for three months debated boldly
with persuasive arguments about the Kingdom of God.

Responsorial Psalm 68:2-3ab, 4-5acd, 6-7ab

R. (33a) Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth.
or:
R. Alleluia.
God arises; his enemies are scattered,
and those who hate him flee before him.
As smoke is driven away, so are they driven;
as wax melts before the fire.
R. Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth.
or:
R. Alleluia.
But the just rejoice and exult before God;
they are glad and rejoice.
Sing to God, chant praise to his name;
whose name is the LORD.
R. Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth.
or:
R. Alleluia.
The father of orphans and the defender of widows
is God in his holy dwelling.
God gives a home to the forsaken;
he leads forth prisoners to prosperity.
R. Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth.
or:
R. Alleluia.

Alleluia Col 3:1

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
If then you were raised with Christ,
seek what is above,
where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel Jn 16:29-33

The disciples said to Jesus,
"Now you are talking plainly, and not in any figure of speech.
Now we realize that you know everything
and that you do not need to have anyone question you.
Because of this we believe that you came from God."
Jesus answered them, "Do you believe now?
Behold, the hour is coming and has arrived
when each of you will be scattered to his own home
and you will leave me alone.
But I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
I have told you this so that you might have peace in me.
In the world you will have trouble,
but take courage, I have conquered the world."

Today's Meditation: John 16:29-33

I have told you this so that you might have peace in me. (John 16:33)

Imagine how the disciples felt. Jesus' words were puzzling—troubling, even. So many things they didn't understand, and what Jesus was saying didn't seem all that helpful. Jesus knew that shortly he would be arrested and put to death. He also knew his disciples would panic and scatter when they saw their Master deliver himself into his enemies' hands. So he spoke words to comfort and reassure them—and us as well.

God sent Jesus "to guide our feet into the path of peace" (Luke 1:79). But today's Gospel makes it clear that the peace Jesus came to bring exists apart from things generally "going our way." A swift commute to work, well-behaved children, and short checkout lines at the store might be gifts from God, but they are not necessarily the peace that Jesus wants for us. The peace "that surpasses all understanding" is the peace that comes from being in the presence of God (Philippians 4:7).

Maybe you've experienced that kind of peace at Mass or when you sit quietly to pray. But God doesn't want his peace to come and go. He wants you to know it all day, every day. Few of us really do, but you can work toward it.

Scripture tells us, "Seek peace and follow after it" (1 Peter 3:11). Don't return insult for insult. Bite back hurtful words. Don't let anger fester. Seek forgiveness and reconciliation with people. Speak the truth and do what you know is right. And make it a habit to turn back to the Lord during the day—frequently.

Because Jesus has conquered the world, it is possible to live in the peace we long for (John 16:33). Perhaps you could give yourself a "peace check" every so often during the day. If you find yourself feeling troubled, anxious, or unsettled, ask the Lord to give you his peace. At the same time, do whatever you can to bring peace into a troubled situation. It may take some work on your part to live in peace, but you weren't meant to do it on your own. After all, Jesus has already done the heavy lifting!

"Jesus, Prince of Peace, reign in my thoughts and emotions today, no matter what situations I face."

Acts 19:1-8
Psalm 68:2-7

""Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you became believers?"
Well...did you?
I watched a video alone yesterday, i was casting it on to the big tv at home, in hopes I would get some takers to sit and watch with me, but since it was not obligation, and since it did not appeal to the kids, they kept playing and doing their own thing. I secretly kind of wished I'd get one or all to have interest in what interested me. Because from the beginning of the day until night fall, the day was to be kept Holy. And the word "until" doesn't change when you wake up again. Be faithful until He returns then.

What video was it you might ask?
click here to see Sister Emmanuel Maillard
Why did I bring this up? Because, in the video of her personal testimony, she brings up a pivotal, not only life changing, but life SAVING moment of her life. I won't spoil it in case you want to watch it, but something happens with a charismatic movement, something that staunch closed Catholics do not really want to come out. Sad. It is sad because I know what being a charismatic is like, I grew up with charismatics. What are they? Who are they? They are people like Sister Emmanuel Maillard, and they are people that are infused with the power from on High. Her life had a complete metanoia on Pentecost. That is why I bring it up, because Pentecost is coming up.
Have you been baptized with the Holy Spirit?

You see, protestants don't get the Sacrament of Confirmation. They don't get it. The only protestants that seem to get a hint are the Pentecostals and those related to the movement. What is a charismatic? They are those infused with the Holy Spirit, the charism then, becomes to shine through a letting soul. Whence this light enters, everything is different in the light. Darkness is dispelled. I hope and pray for the charismatic movement to grow. Even exorcists recommend people to be involved in charimatic prayer groups. They are uplifting. This is what the Holy Spirit does. Have you been baptized like this? Would you like to be?

psalms

We pray today: "The father of orphans and the defender of widows is God in his holy dwelling. God gives a home to the forsaken;
he leads forth prisoners to prosperity.
Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth.
SING TO GOD! CHANT.

Jesus answered them, "Do you believe now?"
They were saying they believed now. But He said "Behold, the hour is coming and has arrived
when each of you will be scattered to his own home and you will leave me alone."
With the pandemonium unfurled on the world, everyone has been scattered into their own home. And many have left Him alone. Church is still open. You can come pray with Him alone. But no. Sacraments are still available, where there is a will. But no. Things aren't that different. He is still left alone.
Our Lord continues:
"But I am not alone, because the Father is with me." The Lord our Father suffices for an eternity. For many years, in this movement I am actively involved, we are called to not be alone, and to be in continuous friendship groups. Trying to do this over a decade, it hasn't been easy. These friends of Christ leave me alone, eventually. I often wondered what it is about me that they no longer want to meet with me. I question everything. Am I too harsh? Too haughty? Too self righteous? Too what? Too anything? Why do so many come and go? In times of great loneliness, I go to the Blessed Sacrament and the Lord comforts me, "you are not alone, I am with you, I have always been with you".
And then, I begin to sing.
I record songs, I sing songs everywhere, because God is with me. The Holy Spirit moves me. And I want the Holy Spirit to move you.

Our Lord continues:
"I have told you this so that you might have peace in me."
I've realized one thing with all the fainting friends in the world. It's never been about a single person in the world, but about Jesus, who changes faces and bodies. Those others are still around, some faithful still, one or two really goofed off, but here, right now with me...He still says yes, I'll be with you.

Our Lord continues:
"In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world."

With Jesus having conquered sin and death, what is it that troubles you?
Sin? Death?
Right? Doesn't sin bother you? If you have conscious, it should bother.
Does death bother you? Some depressed see it as a way out, as sister will talk about in her video. Some faithful see it as the only way to get closer to Jesus. And now we are on to something. Can you trust in He who has conquered the world?
Can you trust in this Kingdom that is at hand?
And in the center of the Kingdom is the King.
Jesus. Jesus who descends upon us all in the Holy Spirit. Jesus who is with us in every friend and face we meet. Jesus in the one who still believes. Jesus in hope. Jesus in love. Jesus in every facet of our lives.

Jesus be with us. Emmanuel.
