†Saint Quote "[Jesus'] body was for Him not a limitation, but an instrument, so that He was both in it and in all things, and outside all things, resting in the Father above. At one and the same time—this is the wonder—as man He was a human life, and as Word He was sustaining the life of the universe, and as Son He was in constant union with the Father." —St. Athanasius of Alexandria † MEDITATION OF THE DAY "Prayer, for me, is simply a raising of the heart, a simple glance towards Heaven, an expression of love and gratitude in the midst of trial, as well as in times of joy; in a word, it is something noble and supernatural expanding my soul and uniting it to God. Whenever my soul is so dry that I am incapable of a single good thought, I always say an Our Father or a Hail Mary very slowly, and these prayers alone cheer me up and nourish my soul with divine food." — St. Therese of Lisieux, p. 141 AN EXCERPT FROM Story of a Soul † VERSE OF THE DAY "So Pilate said to him, 'Then you are a king?' Jesus answered, 'You say I am a king. For this I was born and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.'" —John 18:37 | click to read more | | ST. THERESE OF LISIEUX St. Therese of Lisieux (1873-1897) was the last of nine children born to Saints Louis and Zelie Martin in Alencon, France. Her family was devoutly religious, and all five surviving siblings, all daughters, entered the convent. From an early age Therese desired to give herself totally to Jesus. Her happy childhood gave way to trial following the death of her mother when she was four years old. This event changed her personality from merry and bright to withdrawn and sensitive. She also suffered a strange illness that brought her near death. Her sisters prayed for her recovery, and Therese was completely healed after she saw the Virgin Mary statue in her room smile down on her. Just before her 14th birthday, on Christmas Eve, Therese had a mystical experience of the Child Jesus. Her sensitiveness disappeared and her faith was greatly fortified. She attended daily Mass with her father and cultivated her strong desire for the salvation of souls. At the age of 15 she obtained special permission to enter the Carmelite convent in Lisieux where two of her sisters were professed. Recognizing her youth and weakness, and unable to do the great things for God in the world that her heart desired, she determined that she would follow the path of spiritual childhood at the feet of Jesus, as his "Little Flower", and instead focus on small acts of kindness for love of Jesus and interior acts of self-denial, a spirituality called "The Little Way." Therese died of Tuberculosis at the age of 24, and her high degree of holiness was discovered through her autobiography, Story of a Soul. Her "Little Way" became profoundly influential around the world, and although she was not a learned scholar, her deep theological life caused Pope St. John Paul II to declare her a Doctor of the Church. She is the patron against sickness, tuberculosis, and loss of parents, as well as of pilots, air crews, florists, missionaries, and the sick. St. Therese of Lisieux's feast day is October 1st. | Memorial of Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus, Virgin and Doctor of the Church Lectionary: 459 Reading I Bar 1:15-22 During the Babylonian captivity, the exiles prayed: "Justice is with the Lord, our God; and we today are flushed with shame, we men of Judah and citizens of Jerusalem, that we, with our kings and rulers and priests and prophets, and with our ancestors, have sinned in the Lord's sight and disobeyed him. We have neither heeded the voice of the Lord, our God, nor followed the precepts which the Lord set before us. From the time the Lord led our ancestors out of the land of Egypt until the present day, we have been disobedient to the Lord, our God, and only too ready to disregard his voice. And the evils and the curse that the Lord enjoined upon Moses, his servant, at the time he led our ancestors forth from the land of Egypt to give us the land flowing with milk and honey, cling to us even today. For we did not heed the voice of the Lord, our God, in all the words of the prophets whom he sent us, but each one of us went off after the devices of his own wicked heart, served other gods, and did evil in the sight of the Lord, our God." Responsorial Psalm 79:1b-2, 3-5, 8, 9 R. (9) For the glory of your name, O Lord, deliver us. O God, the nations have come into your inheritance; they have defiled your holy temple, they have laid Jerusalem in ruins. They have given the corpses of your servants as food to the birds of heaven, the flesh of your faithful ones to the beasts of the earth. R. For the glory of your name, O Lord, deliver us. They have poured out their blood like water round about Jerusalem, and there is no one to bury them. We have become the reproach of our neighbors, the scorn and derision of those around us. O LORD, how long? Will you be angry forever? Will your jealousy burn like fire? R. For the glory of your name, O Lord, deliver us. Remember not against us the iniquities of the past; may your compassion quickly come to us, for we are brought very low. R. For the glory of your name, O Lord, deliver us. Help us, O God our savior, because of the glory of your name; Deliver us and pardon our sins for your name's sake. R. For the glory of your name, O Lord, deliver us. Alleluia Ps 95:8 R. Alleluia, alleluia. If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts. R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel Lk 10:13-16 Jesus said to them, "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty deeds done in your midst had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would long ago have repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you. And as for you, Capernaum, 'Will you be exalted to heaven? You will go down to the netherworld.' Whoever listens to you listens to me. Whoever rejects you rejects me. And whoever rejects me rejects the one who sent me." | Daily Meditation: Baruch 1:15-22 We did not heed the voice of the Lord. (Baruch 1:21) Today's passage is part of a letter that the prophet Baruch, one of the exiles in Babylon, wrote to the remnant of Israelites still living in Jerusalem. In it, Baruch asks the Jerusalem community to pray for the exiles and to use the funds he has collected for what they would need to make sacrifices to God under the Mosaic law. But this was more than a simple message. It was also a public acknowledgment of guilt and a plea for God's mercy (Baruch 3:1-8). Baruch's prayer is filled with pain and regret. Apparently, nothing could have brought the Israelites face-to-face with their disobedience and rebellion but the horror of the destruction of Jerusalem and their sacred Temple. It was a wake-up call like no other. Sometimes it takes something truly difficult to wake us up to our sin—or to any situation in which we have been "too ready to disregard [God's] voice" (Baruch 1:19). That shouldn't surprise us, however. It's part of our fallen human nature to stubbornly go our own way or to rationalize our sin or simply ignore it. That's not what God wants for us. He longs for us to become aware of our sin so that we can repent and receive his abundant mercy. So at times he will use an unexpected difficulty to open our eyes and lead us to repentance. No one enjoys a wake-up call; no one likes to confront their sin. As with the exiles, it can be painful and fill us with regret. But just as it happened with the exiles, it can also be the beginning of our own restoration and renewal. God eventually brought the exiles home. We can come home to our Father right now—and every time we go to Confession. In that sacrament, he will not only forgive us; he will give us the grace to "heed" his voice once again (Baruch 1:21). "Lord, wake me up to my sins so that I can be renewed and restored." Psalm 79:1-5, 8-9 Luke 10:13-16 | Listen to 2cents | From Today's Holy Scripture in the book of Baruch: "We have neither heeded the voice of the Lord, our God, nor followed the precepts which the Lord set before us. From the time the Lord led our ancestors out of the land of Egypt until the present day, we have been disobedient to the Lord, our God, and only too ready to disregard his voice." A couple days ago, someone came to me and said that there are not voices strong enough being heard for people to repent. Because if there were, perhaps this pandemic would end. And so here it goes. I'll be the first: BAHHH. LOL. Why Bah? In spanish, when you say bah, it means like "hmm" or "what happened?". But I say like a sheep BAHH! A calling out to watch out! We need to be on our way back to our Good Shephered! Repent, make a U-turn, let's head back...home to Father. The Master Sheep calls. | We pray in Psalms: " O God, the nations have come into your inheritance; they have defiled your holy temple, they have laid Jerusalem in ruins. They have given the corpses of your servants as food to the birds of heaven, the flesh of your faithful ones to the beasts of the earth. For the glory of your name, O Lord, deliver us." I heard somewhere during readings and studying and talks heard, that the devil had been given 100 years for the destruction of the church, back in in the late 1800's like 1880 something. Fast forward, through it. What all happened? Just in our country alone we faced really horrible stuff with a thought. Like moral relativism began with a psychiatrist. "Truth is what you make it" is basically the lie that was fed. Then what happened? Many great inventions yes, but also, pestilence and war, famine, and struggles, world wars that left one asking why? Pointless, but regardless, and then what? Something worse...the war on the family, and the unborn began afterwards in the "sexual revolution". What we have been left with is pieces...to put back together. Learn. BAHHH! BAHHH! Recognize, repent. My dear friend I ate with yesterday said "I haven't been to church, I need to confess and come back" and I said BAHH!! YES, BAAAH-CK you go to the fold ! | Our Lord speaks in the book of John: "Jesus said to them, "Woe to you, Chorazin! _ And whoever rejects me rejects the one who sent me._" | Are you already saying Bahh! Are you already proclaiming the Lord to everyone you meet? If so, GOOD! If not, then, why? Why not? Why are you the silent lamb? Why are you afraid to speak? Have you fallen for the foolish line "say nothing, let your actions speak?", that line to me says just shut up and don't worry about speaking. If that were the case, we should all be mute! I would never get nothing done if I never lifted my voice or made a phone call! Or a text! Say something! If you see it, it's on you my friend. That's what they've taught us in the oilfields safety talks. They say to raise awareness immediately, and even Stop Work if something is unsafe. And so the same happens for all of us in the spiritual world. Do not be mute. Do not be silent. And it is scary to speak at times, and for these moments, pray! Pray that you have the courage to speak. But even more-so, have the courage to be the first to repent, and the lead the way back to our Lord Himself. BAHHCK. BAAACK we go. Life is short, shorter than you think. The devil they say wants us to waste every moment on nothing. But our Lord calls us to Him and to labor and to be a slave and to work. Unlike the other denominations that say you have nothing to worry about (for salvation, once saved always saved), but we do have to worry! What do we worry about? Your personal problems? Martha? Any suggestions? You have need of only one thing...and Mary has chosen the better Part...our Lord speaks. Let's pray: Lord, I want to make a return and I want all those I meet to make a return. I pray that we repent. That we return. That we realize we have been led astray for years, fascinated by all things seeking pleasure and happiness in all things and people except You my Lord. I pray that we are good sheep. Sheep that love the Master and hear Him and give Him ourselves for the good of the flock.
