†.. make people come....

mornignofferin

†Quote of the Day
"Arm yourself with prayer rather than a sword; wear humility rather than fine clothes."
–St. Dominic

†Today's Meditation
"I desire that you know more profoundly the love that burns in My Heart for souls, and you will understand this when you meditate upon My Passion. Call upon My mercy on behalf of sinners; I desire their salvation. When you say this prayer, with a contrite heart and with faith on behalf of some sinner, I will give him the grace of conversion. This is the prayer: 'O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fount of Mercy for us, I trust in You.' "
—Jesus to St. Faustina Kowalska, 186-187

An Excerpt From
Diary of Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska - Divine Mercy in My Soul

†Daily Verse
"For it is written: 'As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bend before me, and every tongue shall give praise to God.' So [then] each of us shall give an account of himself [to God]."
–Romans 14:11-12

November 7th is the Feast of All Saints of the Order of Preachers, also known as the Dominicans. Founded by a Spaniard, St. Dominic de Guzman, in France in the early 13th century, the order has 14 canonized saints and 215 beatified among its mendicant friars, cloistered nuns, active sisters, lay members, and fraternities. The special charism of the Dominican order is to study and preach for the salvation of souls. Over the centuries, the unnamed Dominican martyrs are counted in the tens of thousands, including many among the Martyrs of Nagasaki and the Martyrs of Vietnam. Some of the most famous Dominican saints include St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Catherine of Siena, St. Rose of Lima, St. Martin de Porres, Pope St. Pius V, St. Vincent Ferrer, St. Hyacinth, St. Louis de Montfort, St. Albert the Great, St. Louis Bertrand, St. Catherine de Ricci, St. Margaret of Hungary, St. Peter Martyr, and Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati.

Tuesday of the Thirty-first Week in Ordinary Time

Lectionary: 486
Reading 1

Rom 12:5-16ab

Brothers and sisters:
We, though many, are one Body in Christ
and individually parts of one another.
Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us,
let us exercise them:
if prophecy, in proportion to the faith;
if ministry, in ministering;
if one is a teacher, in teaching;
if one exhorts, in exhortation;
if one contributes, in generosity;
if one is over others, with diligence;
if one does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.

Let love be sincere;
hate what is evil,
hold on to what is good;
love one another with mutual affection;
anticipate one another in showing honor.
Do not grow slack in zeal,
be fervent in spirit,
serve the Lord.
Rejoice in hope,
endure in affliction,
persevere in prayer.
Contribute to the needs of the holy ones,
exercise hospitality.
Bless those who persecute you,
bless and do not curse them.
Rejoice with those who rejoice,
weep with those who weep.
Have the same regard for one another;
do not be haughty but associate with the lowly.

Responsorial Psalm

Ps 131:1bcde, 2, 3

R. In you, O Lord, I have found my peace.
O LORD, my heart is not proud,
nor are my eyes haughty;
I busy not myself with great things,
nor with things too sublime for me.
R. In you, O Lord, I have found my peace.
Nay rather, I have stilled and quieted
my soul like a weaned child.
Like a weaned child on its mother's lap,
so is my soul within me.
R. In you, O Lord, I have found my peace.
O Israel, hope in the LORD,
both now and forever.
R. In you, O Lord, I have found my peace.

Alleluia

Mt 11:28

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened,
and I will give you rest, says the Lord.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel

Lk 14:15-24

One of those at table with Jesus said to him,
"Blessed is the one who will dine in the Kingdom of God."
He replied to him,
"A man gave a great dinner to which he invited many.
When the time for the dinner came,
he dispatched his servant to say to those invited,
'Come, everything is now ready.'
But one by one, they all began to excuse themselves.
The first said to him,
'I have purchased a field and must go to examine it;
I ask you, consider me excused.'
And another said, 'I have purchased five yoke of oxen
and am on my way to evaluate them;
I ask you, consider me excused.'
And another said, 'I have just married a woman,
and therefore I cannot come.'
The servant went and reported this to his master.
Then the master of the house in a rage commanded his servant,
'Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town
and bring in here the poor and the crippled, the blind and the lame.'
The servant reported, 'Sir, your orders have been carried out
and still there is room.'
The master then ordered the servant,
'Go out to the highways and hedgerows
and make people come in that my home may be filled.
For, I tell you, none of those men who were invited will taste my dinner.'"

Daily Meditation: Luke 14:15-24

Come, everything is now ready. (Luke 14:17)

Imagine you were invited to a special dinner party. You would probably be excited and honored to be able to attend. You would mark the day on the calendar and plan your schedule around the event so that nothing else interfered. As the date drew closer, you might choose what clothes to wear or plan what time you need to leave your home. You wouldn't want to be late!

Yet in this parable from today's Gospel, just the opposite happened. Guests were invited but failed to show up. They pursued their own plans with no further thought or care about the banquet. They must have indicated they would come, since the host continued with his preparations. But the guests did not make the dinner a priority. They weren't excited about the invitation, nor did they honor the host who invited them.

It was a shame, because such an invitation said a lot about the host. It showed how generous he was toward every person he had invited. He was willing to put a lot of time and effort into providing a feast with no expectation of repayment. He just wanted to bless each guest.

Like the host in today's parable, Jesus is our generous host, and here's what he says to us:

Come (Luke 14:17). You've received an invitation! Jesus has called you by name to be part of his banquet. He spreads his table before you, ready to bless you with his grace, strength, and love. Let the Holy Spirit stir your heart with excitement and gratitude for the invitation.

Everything is now ready (Luke 14:17). Jesus is always ready to meet you. He is never scrambling to find a place for you at his table. You are never an unexpected guest. Rather, he is waiting at the banquet, eager to greet you.

Don't be like those half-hearted invitees in today's parable! Jesus offers you something magnificent. He invites you into his presence to enjoy all that he has to offer. Today, as you pray, accept his invitation and come to his table.

"Lord Jesus, I give my heart to you. Make me ready to always say yes to you."

Psalm 131:1-3

Reflections with Brother Adrian:Audio Link

From today's 1st Holy Scripture:
"Let love be sincere; hate what is evil,
hold on to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; anticipate one another in showing honor. Do not grow slack in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, endure in affliction, persevere in prayer.........."
end of verse.
. . .

The bible talks about love, and we hear about it more than not in the New Testament. This religion that God created has been designed to be a light to all nations, that evil may be more and more eradicated, that there may not be any room in our lives for darkness, that we may make more room for Heaven in our souls, in our hearts. God doesn't need any other earthly thing, this is the only thing He has asked. Sincerity in love. Anticipate, beat the other in this love competition, the true race of God.

psalms

We pray today:
"O LORD, my heart is not proud,
nor are my eyes haughty;
I busy not myself with great things,
nor with things too sublime for me.
In you, O Lord, I have found my peace.........."

In the Gospel today we heard our Lord:
"The master then ordered the servant,
'Go out to the highways and hedgerows
and make people come in that my home may be filled.
For, I tell you, none of those men who were invited will taste my dinner.'"...."
end of Gospel verse.

The Gospel began with our Lord saying:
"A man gave a great dinner to which he invited many.
When the time for the dinner came,
he dispatched his servant to say to those invited,
'Come, everything is now ready.'
But one by one, they all began to excuse themselves.:

And isn't that the case today? Our Lord is inviting all peoples to Himself and people begin to excuse themselves with various excuses. Most excuses were about business, other types of business...anything but Our Father's business, and they made their business more important than Our Lord's business.
Yesterday I was reading about the latest research as they try to decipher why people have left the faith, especially college students. There are many confusing facts on what the true reason is, but we know what it is, don't we? Faithlessness. Other things are more important. And so the family life has been on the decline, with marriage on the decline. This to me is the greatest fall, traditional family life destroyed, and lately the dark tactic is the separation of children from parents, and how? Social media, phones, computers, anything and everything that the fallen angel of lights brings about, this Lucifer, playing with lights to fool us. The separation is a draw, to take away our attention from what is important.
How important is God's invitation to His Divine Meal?

We play it off as if it is not that important. What if the Eucharist, this meal offered from God was the only way to live in Heaven? What if it is the best way to connect with Heaven?

Do we not desire Heaven? I always ask people that I teach, "do you really think that in Heaven there are people that do not love God?" Heaven is for those who love God and desire God above all. Therefore, the protestant view of "just say you believe and you are saved" falls very short of the truth. It takes more than just believing, because even demons believe there is a God, as a matter of fact, they know it more than all of us, they call us names "blockheads and idiots" because we cannot see what is right before us.
And what is right before us? Our Lord Himself. In the Eucharist. And then in our fellow people we run into, He lives inside anyone He desires.
He is inviting us to an intimate moment with Himself. The King of the world is inviting us!

I am fasting for 40 days for the coming of our Lord. When? We do it twice, once for Christmas and once for Easter. We fast, we prepare ourselves, we turn on our faith lights, we do things to prepare for His coming. We pray more. We offer sacrifices. We mortify ourselves. We let the world know by this proclamation of deed and faith and love, that God is coming, and we are getting ready to welcome Him with great joy, love, and expectation. Anticipate the invitation.

........
Let us pray:
Lord, invite me once and always, I'm ready to say yes!
