Compassion in Times of Transition

Living in a transitional age is scary: It's falling apart, it's unknowable, it doesn't cohere, it doesn't make sense, it's all mystery again, and we can't put order in it. Yet there is little in the biblical revelation that ever promised us an ordered universe. The whole Bible is about meeting God in the actual, in the incarnate moment, in the scandal of particularity, and not in educated theories—so much so that it is rather amazing that we ever tried to codify and control the whole thing. The Bible seems to always be saying that this life is indeed a journey, a journey always initiated and concluded by God, and a journey of transformation much more than mere education about anything. We would sooner have textbooks, I think. Then the journey would remain a spectator sport. The transformation model risks people knowing and sharing "the One Spirit that was given us all to drink" (1 Corinthians 12:13). So sad that we have preferred conformity and group loyalty over real change! But chaos often precedes great creativity. Darkness creates the desire for light. Faith actually precedes great leaps into new knowledge. That's the good news. Our uncertainty is the doorway into mystery, the doorway into surrender, the path to God that Jesus called "faith." I'm seeing people of great faith today, people of the Big Truth, who love the church but are no longer on bended knee before an idol. They don't need to worship the institution; neither do they need to throw it out and react against it. This is a great advance in human maturity. We are slowly discovering what many of us are calling the Third Way, neither fight nor flight, but the way of compassionate knowing.

†Saint Quote
"Love Mary! She is loveable, faithful, constant. She will never let herself be outdone in love, but will ever remain supreme. If you are in danger, she will hasten to free you. If you are troubled, she will console you. If you are sick, she will bring you relief. If you are in need, she will help you. She does not look to see what kind of person you have been. She simply comes to a heart that wants to love her."
— St. Gabriel Possenti of Our Lady of Sorrows

PRAYER DURING CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC
O clement, O loving, O sweet Mother Mary,
We, your children of every nation,
Turn to you in this pandemic.
Our troubles are numerous; our fears are great.
Grant that we might deposit them at your feet,
Take refuge in your Immaculate Heart,
And obtain peace, healing, rescue,
And timely help in all our needs.
You are our Mother.
Pray for us to your Son.
Amen.

PRAYER OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there, and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

† MEDITATION OF THE DAY
Jesus Christ is the one whom the Father anointed with the Holy Spirit and established as priest, prophet, and king. The whole People of God participates in these three offices of Christ and bears the responsibilities for mission and service that flow from them. On entering the People of God through faith and Baptism, one receives a share in this people's unique, priestly vocation: ... The baptized, by regeneration and the anointing of the Holy Spirit, are consecrated to be a spiritual house and a holy priesthood." "The holy People of God shares also in Christ's prophetic office," above all in the supernatural sense of faith that belongs to the whole People, lay and clergy, when it "unfailingly adheres to this faith . . . once for all delivered to the saints," and when it deepens its understanding and becomes Christ's witness in the midst of this world. Finally, the People of God shares in the royal office of Christ. He exercises his kingship by drawing all men to himself through his death and Resurrection. Christ, King and Lord of the universe, made himself the servant of all, for he came "not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." For the Christian, "to reign is to serve him," particularly when serving "the poor and the suffering, in whom the Church recognizes the image of her poor and suffering founder." The People of God fulfills its royal dignity by a life in keeping with its vocation to serve with Christ.

† VERSE OF THE DAY
"With the loyal you show yourself loyal; with the blameless you show yourself blameless; with the pure you show yourself pure, and with the crooked you show yourself perverse. You deliver a humble people, but your eyes are upon the haughty to bring them down."

ST. FELIX OF CANTALICE

St. Felix of Cantalice (d. 1587) was born to a pious peasant family in Italy. He grew up tending sheep and was hired out to work for a farmer at the age of nine, which he did for twenty years. He evidenced signs of holiness and spent his free time in prayer. He had a friend read him the lives of the saints from which he drew much inspiration. Felix eventually joined the Capuchin Franciscans and served in Rome as the Order's official beggar. Although he could not read, and received no formal study, he had great influence over the Roman people because of his piety and the labors he undertook to convert even the most hardened sinners. Felix also encouraged those he met to lead greater lives of virtue, regardless if they were dignitaries or peasants. Men who lived scandalous lives retreated from his presence, lest he convict them of their sins. St. Felix's special apostolate was among the children of the city to whom he gave religious instruction with childlike humility and simplicity. He was a contemporary and friend of St. Philip Neri, who declared Felix to be the Church's greatest living saint. St. Felix served in this way for 42 years. He was beatified immediately after his death, becoming the first Capuchin Franciscan ever canonized. His body rests under an altar dedicated to him in the church of the Immaculate Conception in Rome. His feast day is May 18.

Monday of the Sixth Week of Easter
Lectionary: 291
Reading 1

Acts 16:11-15

We set sail from Troas, making a straight run for Samothrace,
and on the next day to Neapolis, and from there to Philippi,
a leading city in that district of Macedonia and a Roman colony.
We spent some time in that city.
On the sabbath we went outside the city gate along the river
where we thought there would be a place of prayer.
We sat and spoke with the women who had gathered there.
One of them, a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth,
from the city of Thyatira, a worshiper of God, listened,
and the Lord opened her heart to pay attention
to what Paul was saying.
After she and her household had been baptized,
she offered us an invitation,
"If you consider me a believer in the Lord,
come and stay at my home," and she prevailed on us.

Responsorial Psalm

149:1b-2, 3-4, 5-6a and 9b

R. (see 4a) The Lord takes delight in his people.
or:
R. Alleluia.
Sing to the LORD a new song
of praise in the assembly of the faithful.
Let Israel be glad in their maker,
let the children of Zion rejoice in their king.
R. The Lord takes delight in his people.
or:
R. Alleluia.
Let them praise his name in the festive dance,
let them sing praise to him with timbrel and harp.
For the LORD loves his people,
and he adorns the lowly with victory.
R. The Lord takes delight in his people.
or:
R. Alleluia.
Let the faithful exult in glory;
let them sing for joy upon their couches.
Let the high praises of God be in their throats.
This is the glory of all his faithful. Alleluia.
R. The Lord takes delight in his people.
or:
R. Alleluia.

Alleluia

Jn 15:26b, 27a

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
The Spirit of truth will testify to me, says the Lord,
and you also will testify.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel

Jn 15:26—16:4a

Jesus said to his disciples:
"When the Advocate comes whom I will send you from the Father,
the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father,
he will testify to me.
And you also testify,
because you have been with me from the beginning.

"I have told you this so that you may not fall away.
They will expel you from the synagogues;
in fact, the hour is coming when everyone who kills you
will think he is offering worship to God.
They will do this because they have not known either the Father or me.
I have told you this so that when their hour comes
you may remember that I told you."

Today's Meditation: Acts 16:11-15

Lydia . . . listened, and the Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what Paul was saying. (Acts 16:14)

Something remarkable happens in today's first reading. As Paul is preaching the gospel, an established businesswoman, "a dealer in purple cloth," comes to believe in Jesus (Acts 16:14). She very quickly seeks baptism for herself and her household. Then she opens her home to Paul and his companions. In fact, she insists that they stay with her!

A lot happens in just these few verses, so let's try to take a closer look. We know that Lydia, although not a Jew, worshipped the God of Israel. We can assume that God had already been at work in her heart, turning her away from the false gods of paganism. So when Paul began speaking about Jesus, she already had some understanding, which allowed God to open her heart even more. Just as important, these verses reveal Lydia's habit of listening carefully and thinking through what Paul was saying. It took both God prompting her to be open and Lydia listening closely to bring her to baptism.

God wants to open our hearts further as well. He wants us to know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that we are loved, forgiven, and empowered by the Holy Spirit to build his kingdom. As he was with Lydia, he is always at work in our lives, always looking for ways to soften our hearts. But he needs us to be open and willing to listen to what he wants to say to us.

Yes, God works wonders, but we also have a part to play. If you want to hear God's voice, imitate Lydia's habit of listening closely. You don't have to strain anxiously to hear his word. Rather, adopt a position of trust and humility. Be ready to stop whatever you are doing and pay close attention when you think God might be trying to say something to you.

Paul and his companions were just looking for a place to pray when they came upon Lydia and her friends. We never know when or where God will speak to us. May we always be alert and ready to respond when he does!

"Lord, give me the grace to hear what you want to reveal to me."

John 15:26–16:4

Our Lady had to declare that she was the handmaid of the Lord before God could fill her. Even seeing Jesus die, Our Lady trusted God… Our Lady became the Mother of Sorrows because she said yes continually with full trust and joy, trusting in Him without reserve.

"If you consider me a believer in the Lord, come and stay at my home,"
They stayed, much like the Holy Spirit will stay if you prevail on Him...
He will come.

psalms

We pray today: "Sing to the LORD a new song
of praise in the assembly of the faithful. Let Israel be glad in their maker, let the children of Zion rejoice in their king. The Lord takes delight in his people".
Children of Zion? There's always talk about Zion, a high and holy mountain of the Lord. Children of Zion? Rejoice in their King? That must mean that we here are children of Zion! And the command ushers forth REJOICE.

2cents2

Our Lord speaks:
"When the Advocate comes whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, he will testify to me."
And the Children of Zion will speak in truth. That's the language the Children of Zion speak.
And for this, many will be persecuted.

Our Lord says:
"I have told you this so that you may not fall away."
That is, so that you may not dismay. There are many that have been tempted to fall away, amidst the pandemonium pandemic, creating great chaos, not only in normal way of life, but in the spiritual life. You will not fall away though, if you remain. You will not fall away if you remain in the Way. Jesus. The Truth. The Life.

"... the hour is coming when everyone who kills you
will think he is offering worship to God."

There seems to be certain types of possessions we can find ourselves involved in. Possession by God.
Possession by self.
Possession by the devil.
Possesion of self is related to the devil.
You see, in the eyes of Zion, it is black or white. There is no gray matter in Mount Zion.

We like to walk in the middle, as a matter of fact, the false prince of peace in the world, the liar, wants us to walk in the middle. Have your cake and eat it too. And they have a motto; YOLO. You Only Live Once. A lie. That's a lie from the pits of the abyss. Why a lie? Don't we actually live one time on earth? That's not the lie. The lie insinuates to die for yourself.

If you only live once, wouldn't you rather die for God? For Love? WITH LOVE?
And they call the false way of peace "tolerance". All the while, the world is increasingly intolerant to the followers of the Way.

Let's plan in June a huge reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in public, and in doing so, promote the truth of Traditional Marriage and holy conceptions of children, consummation and conception. Promote this and see what kind of reaction you will receive. If it is anything like abortion, you will get all sorts of reactions, from good to bad, and bad leaves a sour and threatening taste, very vile hatred. There are evil spirits standing guard at abortion clinics. Spirits, not people. For our war is not against people but these spirits in people. Be on guard children of Zion.
"They will do this because they have not known either the Father or me."
They do not truly know God, and they truly know not Love, who is God Himself.
You see? Why would you slap an ignorant across the face? Why does the ignorant slap across the face?

Why did Jesus get slapped?
Why did they strike His Precious Face?
Why did He not strike back?
You see the truth now? Suddenly, the defense comes to the forefront...the defense of the truth, and this overrides hatred. Because God Hates evil, He doesn't give it an ounce of authority over what matters.

Let us consider this Way of life. Let us promote the Way by living the Way. Let us promote the sanctity of life.

The world loves death, death movies, death games, death ideas, abortion, murder shows, and this why the pandemics are so popular.

But the truth? The Life?
We ought to love the truth and the Life above all.
And this is Jesus.
The Sacred Heart of Jesus be with us all....forever
